Man, at first I thought this was something regarding a porn star when I saw the title. Come to think of it, I guess that's what the Stonesy groove is all about.

When the SOME GIRLS deluxe was mentioned I thought OH WOW, FINALLY!!!!!

Nope.

I've always thought this tune was brilliant. It has some good heave in it, some sneering licks, a nice roll.

It still amazes me they didn't finish it for the album yet alone the deluxe. Fiji Jim. I Need You. Munich Hilton. Some great music.

They have enough for ER. In other threads about TY I've wondered - and in one I even listed possibilities - if there were other songs considered for TY that were compiled by Kimsey but nothing has ever been published etc about that. It seems that what was done was all there was but I find that difficult to believe considering how they generally finish 15 to 20 songs per LP. Or they used to LOL.

Since they tapped into the GHS sessions for WOAF and Tops and BAB sessions for Slave and Worried About You... certainly more were considered and possibly worked on!

Isn't Start Me Up initially from the BAB-sessions, too?

Supposedly, the riff was written back then. I doubt they recorded it, though.

It's documented that Start Me Up is from the same 1977 session that Miss You was recorded in. It wouldn't be surprising of it was started during the BAB sessions since they have brought previous songs along and worked on them several times.

Indeed. Bill said that they started it during the BAB-sessions.

Way back, pre-internet, when I read in some book about how it was from the BAB sessions, I listened to it on headphones along with Slave and Worried. Sonically it certainly resembled those. But once I had read that it was recorded in 1977 and the mixing was done on various consoles and learned that Clearmountain had worked to make the album sound as unified as possible, it explains why it (as well as the rest of the 1977 tracks on TY) has a lot more ass to it than anything on SOME GIRLS.

One thing that was a detail I found interesting was that there is a break in when songs were recorded for SG because Charlie got the China crash in what could be called the second portion or some kind of latter portion, since there is no real way to know, of the SG sessions. I realize that drummers do change some cymbals sometimes during recording sessions but it seems that once Charlie got that China crash he never put a regular crash back in that position, which is telling regarding the timeline of those songs. Start Me Up, just like Miss You, as well as a good amount of songs on SG, doesn't have a China crash.

Always thought Separately, Traveling Man,Red Blood Wine,Hillside Blues,Dancing in the Light, were all better songs than Tops and could have replaced it on Tatoo You. Also like Zipmouth Angel. And Jump on Top of Me should have replaced Suck on the Juggler on Voodoo Lounge
