OT: Van Halen is at it again...They have cancelled their tour
Posted by: James Kirk ()

The most dysfunctional band in the history of rock (with the possible exception of Guns n Roses) is at it again...Looks like Van Halen has cancelled their 2012 tour despite solid concert sales.

Nobody knows for sure what is going on, but a rumor posted on RollingStone.com claims that the band is fighting again and that the band members "hate each other". Another far more serious possibility is that Eddie Van Halen's cancer has come back which obviously isn't a laughing matter. Fingers crossed that EVH is well.

My money is on EVH and DLR having yet another knock down drag out fight that will continue the 15 year long attempt by all band members to destroy the legacy of what was once one of the greatest American bands. Their arguments make Jagger and Richards look like Ward and June Cleaver in comparison. It's too bad too because their album was "A Different Kind of Truth" was their best since at least 1986's 5150

Whether you love VH or hate them you have to admit that these guys are entertaing...How long before they announce their new reunion tour with Sammy Hagar?

Face it, stadium tours of The '70s are DOA.

Few bands can sell that way now. The Vegas model is in.
Lady Gaga can suck it.

VH sold out the Verizon Center here in DC - that's more than 20,000 seats. THey could have sold 40,000 if they had the venue. VH could definitely sell out a stadium.

No idea whats going on in VH, but I can say Hagar will never rejoin them. Too much chaos on his part, and not that he's better than them, but after all the badmouthing he did recently, it would be a real weird and pussy move on his part to go back. Before the other reunion, I don't remember him really being as mean and pissy as this time.

please post all of the info. van halen WILL perform all scheduled tour dates up until the end of june. there are currently 13 shows the band will still play. doubt it was a fight between EVH and DLR or the tour would be over now.

From another site :

"Horrible sound at every show.
Roth has no pipes at all.
Eddie and Wolfgang are singing along to pre recorded vocal samples.
Same jokes at every show.
Way too big of smiles on their faces.
Kool and the Gang is the opener.
Tickets are outrageously high in price".

btw I'm only reporting this message

saw them in march. DLR sounded better in 2012 then he did in 2003 when i saw him solo. the band sounded great and the mix was clear. i paid $60 for seats and was in roughly the same area that i paid about $95 to see the stones more than a decade ago.

This is too bad, but I'm glad I had yet to buy tix to see them at Mohegan Sun - really I was more interested in seeing Ky-mani Marley opening for them......

I'm glad I got to see VH in their prime, during the late 70s, once in a small hall, the next time opening for the Stones at the Louisiana Superdome,
but I wouldn't give a nickel to see these guys anymore.

Really hope EVH is OK.

This might have more to do with business contracts. Maybe the shows they did cancel were within their legal right to cancel without the ins. paying out to promoters etc. They have had a pretty hard schedule since February, I think, and it might be time for a break.

That or the Stones are touring and they wanted the Van Halen arena dates.

Re: OT: Van Halen is at it again...They have cancelled their tour

rumor is its just livenaton pushing the dates back to give the band a rest. the original post leaves out vitale info like the dates are postponed not cancelled and the band will still perform every date until the end of june which is 13 shows left

Re: OT: Van Halen is at it again...They have cancelled their tour

Nah. The shows that were pre-cancelled told Eddie that all the bowls of M'n'Ms are pre-loaded with all brown M'n'M's. There's no need to do the shows since they inverted the rider.

Given all the recent EVH medical issues, I'm hoping it's just that they've over extended themselves and he needs a rest.

It odd that just last week they added more shows to the tour and now this. I had tickets for the NJ show in July.

I do hope Eddie's OK, but Van Halen fell apart long ago. Not many bands can last if they keep changing lead singers, especially when the first one - Roth -was considered a huge part of the band's image and persona. They're damn lucky they kept a large fan base when Hagar came in. Imagine the Stones at the height of their commercial popularity firing Jagger and trying to continue with - say - Rod Stewart or somebody else. The fans accepted Hagar and then VH goes and dumps him for somebody else, etc. I was never a huge fan but I respected them. I think they're done.

VH is smoking on this tour and their new CD is really good. Hopefully EVH hasn't fallen off the wagon because he has been sober and playing his ass off. These gigs have been postponed, so they will reschedule and play them later in the year.

I saw a video on youtube from a recent concert and DLR went to the right of the drums and drank beer out of a tap. Can that be good for Eddie's rehab ?

The subject to this post is completely wrong and misleading.

The tour has not been cancelled. The dates have simply been postponed. They are playing for the next 7 weeks-- everything is cool.

The reason for the postponed dates is because they are going to be re-routing the logistics of the tour a bit. There will be some international dates added in Europe and possibly down in Australia.

Well I plan on seeing a couple shows in the bay area next month. I will report back here on what I thought of them. I'm already a bit scared because of the "same jokes" observation made by dcba above. That is tacky, unless the jokes are VERY good.

I doubt Eddie has fallen off the wagon but It is indeed likely that his health problems won't allow such a vigorous tour to proceed. I hate to blame anybody or anything in particular until we see what the truth of the matter is. This is highly unusual behaviour for any band really so we have to assume they have their reasons and they are good. peace

It's sad they way they treated Mike Anthony. They extorted him into signing away all his future income by allowing him on the '04 tour, after already cutting his share several years before. Then they unceremoniously dumped him. Karma coming around...

I was at that same concert EG, Doobie Brothers opened up, Van Halen was next and then the Rolling Stones. I believe that set an indoor concert record for attendance at the time. Great show but the seats we had were pitiful.

I was shocked to see this yesterday, especially having seen them a couple weeks ago in Vancouver. I"m thinking that if it was the band fighting or even worse, Ed's cancer situation, the tour would be cancelled immediately, not going on for another 5 weeks. They all travel separately so it's not as though they're together 24/7.
I'm hoping that perhaps they're getting exhausted so they need a break or they're going to play overseas and hit the US back in the late fall. That or else they have some legal/financial issues with LiveNation. Again, these dates are just postponed, not cancelled (yet?).
Their 2004 tour grossed $54 million and the 2007-08 reunion tour grossed $96 million and I"m sure this tour would have topped that.
