A Bigger Bang is better than Tattoo You? I stopped there. Worthless reviews.

A Bigger Bang being placed above Tattoo You aside, it's a nonsensical. illogical list: studio albums, live releases and compilations cannot be cobbled-together for these list-rankings.

rankings simple don't work with qualitative data!

I daresay, I bunch of BS!

I am in almost total disagreement with their assessment.

At least with Rolling Stone Magazine's music reviews,
I can 80% agree with.

Furthermore, I have never even heard of Classic Rock Magazine.

I laughed out loud there, too, when Dance lazily was placed in the same musical category as ER. The SAL-review has the best line, though: 'the best example of the guitarists's ancient art of weaving' (paraphrasing)...

Not sure what all the fuss is about. A few surprises and odd rankings for sure, but hardly the garbage list many seem to suggest. And I have no problem combining compilations, live albums and official studio releases into one overall list.

I always think it that a decent list or ranking exercise is playing things far too safe if it simply echoes conventional wisdom 100%. It is good to be annoyed, irritated and challenged too. I know far too many people who never venture beyond The Stones warhorses and have little interest in expanding their knowledge of the band and its music. However I'm not suggesting that is the case with any of the opinions offered by other contributors here.

The fact is ANY assessment of recorded work will always be subjective. I infuriate a couple of my friends by insisting on a preference for some of the 1960's London albums over their longer more critically acclaimed Decca versions. The trouble with a couple of the UK Stones albums IMO is the complete lack of 'classic' tracks. Here the UK Between The Buttons comes to mind, where the US version benefits greatly from the addition of "Let's Spend The Night Together" and "Ruby Tuesday", even if lacks two of the best songs on the UK album ("Back Street Girl" and "Please Go Home")

Its all a matter of opinion

Between The Buttons at #21!?!?!?!?!?

Yeah, this is a terrible ranking list...

I believe it's a UK magazine? Yeah, A Bigger Bang above Tattoo You is just pure nonsense! Undercover coming in at #19 is interesting.

Agree with number 1 (Sticky Fingers)

I think this ranking gives A Bigger Bang the place it deserves. It is a good album

Blue and lonesome also gets its right place.

Between the buttons is really low, and I don´t see Emotional Rescue as the worst album.

Aftermath is well ranked for me (I think it is an overrated album)

Ruby Tuesday , Let’s Spend the Night Together and She Smiled Sweetly were all on the American Between the Buttons. Those 3songs are a hundred times better than any song on a Bigger Bang. And Flowers is way better than a Bigger Bang.Collectively, the 1967 albums have at least 10 great songs

I think the ranking has its merits, especially if one disregards the ranking attributed to ABB.

Including some but not all compilations and live albums (to the extent practicable) may not be fully logical or consistent, but the Top 10 ranking including - arguably - the best of these does give a good overview of the Stones at their peak.

At least they got Steel Wheels and Dirty Work right.

They mention the 1989 SW tour as "to test just how high a ticket price the contemporary market can take", it seems moot, since the Jacksons were charging roughly the same in 1984, and packing them in.

It'd be interesting to see each one of The Stones individual rankings on all the studio albums. Then combine the results to get the averages. I would've liked to have seen that data set for Brian Jones, Stu & Nicky as well. Bill & Mick Taylor would have to be included.

I'd be surprised if any Stones member, living, dead or former (Bill, Mick T.) would rank any LP after Undercover, over any LP prior to it. (assuming the dearly departed could hear all the LP's that were released after their death). I guess Blue & Lonesome might get some support in that regard.

Then do the same for live, compilations, & maybe Top 100 boots.
Lastly, have them rank their top 25 concerts.

100% accurate. All Sold Out, Connection, make at least 5 good/great songs. Today, a CD is lucky to have 1 good song on it.

1963-1967, 5 years of volumes of bluesy rockers etc. Mick sounded the best during this time.

They start getting it right down near the best (since the list is reverse sorted worst to best), but before I actually knew that I wasn't even going to read it based on Emotional Rescue being ranked at the top. As it is, I don't have a real problem with its ranking although surely there have been way worse released. They did start hitting the nail on the head with their mention of Brussels Affair and show some deep understanding of the differences in boot releases vs the official one. And I agree with their assessment of the result of those differences. So I give them major points and do not dismiss the otherwise possibly questionable choices and rankings. I think they did a better job than most of these type of sure fire column inch filler clickbait articles.

Emotional Rescue was NOT ranked at the top!

It was ranked at the bottom.

Their list goes from worst to best.

It seems some people are confused here.

============================================

However, I stick by my previous post, above,
that this review is BS.

And speaking of Emotional Rescue; I find
myself listening to that album more than
Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, or Exile, at
this point in time, even though the 3 big
ones are clearly better albums.

Emotional Rescue is not one of their best, but if done by another band probably would be that band's best.

It's an excellent album and has no place at the bottom. A ridiculous list...peppering some live albums and some compilations in there for no particular reason doesn't help with their credibility.

The reason is clear: the writer ranks those live albums and compilations along with non live and compilation albums. Nothing wrong with that on the surface, but I personally would not include compilations, but I am not making the list.
