I own and have used the second edition very often.
Very useful and well done book easy to read, easy to browse.

Looking forward to this...got both versions
If the improvement from the first to the second edition is mirrored in the new book, it should be a treat (and very useful to boot).

Cheers

He probably was, but perhaps just not in a very obvious way.

Brian spoke very positively about JJF and I have to believe he played on this track.

So what about "Don't Lie To Me". Does he still list it as a Regent Sound outtake or a Chess outtake?

Why do you think that? He certainly isn't audible in any way.

I don't know whether he did or not, but there isn't really anything substantial there that tell us he did play on it.

Maybe he is clearly audible, but something you think is Keith is actually Brian. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out I don't think that is the case myself, but we can never be totally sure eh!?

I think that if Brian did play guitar on JJF it was during the initial basic take, that it's not the high over dubbed parts some folks seem to think is him.

It might very well be the case, but there really aren't many electric guitar takes from Brian from this era. However, he featured in the promo video, playing guitar, so... it is a bit puzzling, and should be confirmed in some way, imo smiling smiley

In the JJF promo's he seems to be playing(miming) much the same part as he played at Rock and Roll Circus. Assuming that's close to what he played on the record he's been mixed out or mixed really low because no such part is really audible on the record.

the chapter from 2006-12 should be a short one---about a paragraph i should say...informing us that there is no recording info for those years....

I'd say that the recording info on the recordings Mick, Keith and Taylor did for the reissues would be very interesting.

Got the book here in France just today.
I must say that it's a nice surprise, larger in size than I'd expected , far better than the older versions (nice upgrade)
and last but not least, great idea to have added these additional shots from the Pathé-Marconi Studios. The front cover is indeed stunnin'.
My 2cts, a must have, so for those who still have some doubts, it's really the definitive book !!!!!
Congrats and well done.smileys with beer

On the nice [www.stonessessions.com] you'll also find new appendices as pdf-files.

For sure the PayPal system works fine also (both waysthumbs up )

Nice & unknown pictures from Pathé-Marconi 1977. That's the big surprise.

But for the rest, very disappointed.

Complete recording sessions ??? The definitive book ??? That's a joke.

Who can claim to publish a complete listing of the RS in studio ? Nobody !

I still consider Nico & Felix as the most reliable sources. They work hard, God bless them !

Felix's book was full of mistakes, but he called it the ultimate guide.

Nico's site is great, but again various mistakes with instruments etc.

Martins revised book will probably have some too, I spy a couple with regards to instrumentation in the online samples.

Tis the nature of the game unfortunatley, very little hard facts to go on, but much interpretation and opinion. There is no true definitive book/site yet, but the ongoing revisions show there is a desire to achieve such a thing.

thumbs up

In a few words, I have just said that Nico & Felix are the most reliable sources.

Martin Elliott book is not reliable, too much gaps. I have nothing against them (Martin & the book). His 3rd book will be 3 centimeters for eternity on a book shelf.
