FROM THE VAULT: L.A. FORUM (LIVE IN 1975)

There's been several LA 75 official releases. I'm not clear on what we had and what we just got What are the differences.

Originally (2014?) there was a DVD released from one show and an audio CD from another. Now there are two more releases.

I'd appreciate if someone Would you kindly explain the differences.

Thanks,
ExileStones

UICY-79174 is the same as we already had in 2014 (audio portion in 2CD/DVD combo). Mixed by Bob Clearmountain.
UICY-79176 new mix of the same show. Brickwalled to death (DR5-6), overloaded with bass but guitars are placed at the edges of stereo panorama. So some people considered this mix as more punchy. I found it loud and ear bleeding. Mastered by Sam Wheat.

I prefer the excellent set of Mike Millard audience recordings. The particular boot I have is called 'Whores, Cocaine and a bottle of Jack'. Highly recommended this, sound quality is excellent and really gives one a feel of being in attendance that polished soundboards just can't.

I believe that the dvd video is from the 12th. The original “LA Friday Night” article from Rolling Stone magazine (where Jann Wenner gushed about the show he’d just seen... “best Stones show ever!”) featured photos labeled from Friday night which was the 11th. Jagger wore his striped PJ outfit, Keith all in yellow in those pics. As we know the dvd shows MJ decked out in white linen, Keith in black. So based on those magazine photos, the dvd performance was not from Friday July 11th but more likely the 12th. (I wonder if Wenner got to see Sunday the 13th??)

Just started listening to the "New Mix", agree 100% with your assessment. Made the Clearmountain sound unbelievably good by comparison. Besides the SHM-CD, was the 2014 also tweaked for 2020?

Is there any difference on the artwork or discs between UICY-79174 and UICY-79176 except for the very small written numbers? I mean, where do I see which mix it is?

Looks like the difference is the Catalog-Number in the fine-print (lower right corner), the new Mix has a Introduction, the old Mix has additionally (P) 2014 in the fine-print:

UICY-79174/5 - [www.Amazon.co.jp]

Initial digital download was with average DR7.
CDs from the 2014 were with the same DR7 too, apparently they were not tweaked. I.e. recorded on CD as is. No sonic candy but that what we got.

Unfortunately, I do not have data on this re-issue. Apparently, everybody picked new remaster. But judging the words on the back cover - no tweaking. To be 100% one should get EAC log or log from foobar2000 Dynamic Range Meter with numbers.

The DVD's, released in 2014 and in 2020, puzzle me. According to Felix Aeppli and Nico Zentgraf the 2014 DVD contains the show of July 11 1975 (not July 12) and the cd's (both of 2014 and 2020) have the show of July 13 1975.

What about the DVD release of 2020? Is that the same show of July 11 1975? And is there any difference (audio and/or images) between the releases of 2014 and 2020?

Alex.

UICY-79174 July 13 original mastering
UICY-79176 July 13 remastered by Sam Wheat. Here you have Introduction listed in the tracklist.
