thanks for posting Stay With Me, Lien - even in that puny youtube clip the energy flow between Mac and Ronnie is a joy to hear,
and Mick H showin everyboy how it's done makes me glow like a fool.
Kenny sounds mighty fine as well; and who's that on bass?

It's Conrad Korsch, from Rod Stewart's band.

I read Rod had the flu. If that's true, it's just an unfortunate turn of events.

Rod changed dramatically his personality and his kind of singing over the past decades. So it didn't makes me wonder....

Keep on rollin'

I suspect this may have something to do with Rod's "flu." I don't think he's got enough vocal power anymore to carry this Steve Marriott-sung tune

Completely. And watch Ronnies body language on this clip after saying a friend of Macs saw Rod at the docs. Yeah, right. He queued at the Doctors. It stinks.

Maybe Rod doesn't have the vocal chops to be 'Rod Stewart' anymore.

There were a few here that protested that Rod could still do it. It seems to be that the ceremony would have been the place to prove it.

Not sure how he could "do it"...Ronnie's said in the past that when they got together (maybe 2 years ago now?) with Rod to bang around some tunes, Rod requested that they lower the key to some if not all of the songs. The band was happy to oblige but Ronnie admitted just how "off" all the guitars sounded/felt once they did that.

So I'm just not sure just how exactly Rod can join them if he both parties are unhappy with the music if they were to accommodate for the other....?

I think Ronnie is one of the most underrated musician, he deserves more!
Would love to see this band - call it Faces or New Faces - live even without Rod. Mick Hucknall fits in very well, great voice, powerful and soulful.
I guess he will be one of Ronnie's friend at the Hammersmith Apollo, end of June. Can't wait ...
ciao

So I'm just not sure just how exactly Rod can join them

he could've played tambourine and added a backing vocal here and there. or he could've just applauded.
it would've been a far far better thing for Rod to show up - with or without the flu or "flu" -
but instead he's merely made it official that he just plain doesn't/can't rock anymore

but Faces sure can and do! they sound great

Why are people surprised/angry/hurt/disappointed by "reclining" Rod's absence? He's spent the last decade trying to sell himself as a slightly hipper, less talented, Tony Bennett. The chances of him getting up onstage and rocking with the Faces are pretty slim.

i'm not surprised he didn't sing, but it would have been a billion times classier to show up.
which isn't to say i expected it, but it would have been good to see him show a little support/courtesy for his ex-cohorts.
but to hell with him ~ Faces rock

Sweet! Stay with Me has always been my favorite song of Ronnies. I saw him play an acoustic show with Rod around 1990? where they rocked this tune. I think a CD was made of it. A rod Stewart CD "featuring Ronnie Wood".

Nobody could be expected to sing as many gravelly notes as Rod has done and still be able to do it at his age. I'm happy with what he has given me thus far. Handbags and Gladrags is still in my set list although I play the piano part on mandolin.

I think Rod was just having a bad hair week and that was the cause for his absence. He is forgiven for that. Not for his foray into the world of Julio E. and "Do ya think I'm Sexy?". I mean every straight red blooded rock and roll kid like me had to answer that one with a big NO! No comment from the rock chicks was hurtful enough. lol

Congratulations Ronnie, you are a true pro and we love you! peace
