That whole first side of Tattoo You sounds like they just threw together some sounds in a hurry to fill it out after Start Me Up.

You might be right about that. However...
The riff has the feel of the Talk is Cheap album. It is indeed a cool riff!
But I just don't like the lyrics... Perhaps too commercial, too personal, too polished. The lyrics also lack some nastiness...
I remember being so excited when Steel Wheels and Mixed Emotions came out, and I really dug the song back then. 1989 was the Stones' year in USA.
The Desert Trip version was quite bad, had no life in it.

This is the right take...not the muffled and overproduced official version:

The Desert Trip version imo is embarassing.
Why does it have to be "in my opinion"?
You could've just as easily said, "The Desert Trip version is embarassing."
No one would question THAT. What they would question is Why do you think so?
Meaning, you provide nothing as to why.
Seeing that the whole idea of, say, a place like iorr.org, is to express an opinion, by saying "imo" to mean that anything else you say is to be taken lightly etc? Isn't EVERYTHING anyone says here "in my opinion"? Unless sourced with facts? Or does it give some kind of fake importance to what you (anyone) said?
Yes, I know - unless backed up by facts, because opinions do not require facts, opinions mean zero without facts, and everyone has one blah blah blah 'the customer is always right' - no they're not.
Seems a bit weird to me that people go through the effort of saying "imo" or "just saying" after saying something. Say it better? Or just... say it?
Of course any live version won't be better than the studio version of... unless it is...
Because... we, "we", should know what that means.
