I like the song in general, but sometimes Jagger's imitation of the Black American accent is embarassing, as it is on this song: "Why'ant ya go down the liquor store, steal something off the shelf and be back here by a quarter to three."

You just wonder sometimes what goes on in his head, a middle-class English kid who has made his made a fortune from imitating Black Americans.

I and I'm sure most others have enjoyed your contributions thus far mitch.

To take a quote from Tattoo You, you're 'Tops'!

On the other hand, there may be another song on Sticky Fingers that might even better describe your contributions...

Maybe it's only the second best song from 1975?

WAY sure is hard to surpass, imo. Then we have Memory Motel, which shockingly was dissed as crap in some thread recently...

OK your math has lost me.

Are you saying second best since 1980, 3rd best since 1975?

I think once we breach 1980, you may as well go all the way back to 1973 as that's where the whole thing gets starts getting sketchy.

So now you're saying Tops and Waiting On A Friend are contenders? It sure has expanded.

Dandy's taking us to 1975, so that opens up Some Girls and Black and Blue...because that feels a little arbitrary I think you need to go back two more years, to get to just after the BIG 4.

Precisely, seeing that it seems to be the, let's call it coverage of years, that TATTOO YOU features. But it makes me wonder if GOATS HEAD SOUP would've been better with Tops and Waiting On A Friend on it had they been finished. Of course they would not sound like they do as we know them. No matter. And through in Through The Lonely Nights and Criss Cross... it would be a very different album and perhaps it would've been the fifth, making The Big 5...

No matter. Is Slave the best Stones song since 1980 that isn't from 1973?

I'm with you on adding WAY and Tops and TTLN and Criss Cross...if we could please find another home for Dancing With Mr. D, I wouldn't be displeased either.

And as far as your other point, Slave is clearly the best song since 1980 that isn't originally from 1973.

Seeing that Slave and Worried About You are from the BAB sessions... wouldn't the question be is Slave/WAY the best song since 1980 from 1975?

Great song indeed, if not the best one of the best. I'd like to hear it live, but it's a dream.. I also like down in the hole and laugh I nearly died..

Down In The Hole is another under-discussed gem. Great atmosphere.

Huh? I don't get that at all. Imitating a black American? What kind of black American? Just like white Americans black Americans have all kinds of accents and dialects. There is not one 'black' kind of accent. I don't get how you even got that he's imitating a black American to begin with.

And it's twelve, not three.

I love it but to suggest it's the best on Tattoo is way off the meek for me let alone since 1980.

Start me up
Waiting on a friend
No use in crying
Tie you up
New faces
Out of tears
One hit
Mixed emotions
Continental drift
Thief in the night
The worst
Saint of me
Laugh I nearly died
She was hot
Biggest mistake
Oh no not you again
Look what the cat dragged in
You got me rocking
Anybody seen my baby
Gunface

and a heap more are better in my opinion.
It's still a ball tearer of of track though smoking smiley

You made me wince...and your 'ball tearer' comment was also cringeworthy.

Is "Almost Hear You Sigh" the best Stones song since 1986 ??

Maybe not as good as " One Hit ( To the Body ) " but perhaps better than anything since then.

It's one of their best since 1989, imo, but Continental Drift might be even better.

Definitly one of the best. I agree one hit to the body is great. How about out of control? Not bad either!

I didn´t know why: But this was my warm up-song at home for Waldbühne.
I played all the slow ones two days before the show - from Winter over Wild H. to Angie and so on.
But "Almost..." was the one I played again and again.
Funny this thread is now here two month later...
