Ronnie is an excellent bass player.

No he is not. He is a great guitar player who plays guitar-licks on the bass.
To understand the premise of the bass you must feel the overall sound to form the music. Ronnie, despite great bass-lines, is sorely playing licks which could be performed as rythm-guitar figures.

I beg to differ. CHeck this out, especially starting around 3:00. That's some groovy ass playing there.

This is what I'm talking about. WAY too many notes! If he had been locked in the groove with the drummer, the track would have gotten a much more groovy feeling. Instead he plays all over, which makes it sound very uneasy in the bottom of the song. I don't like it. Sorry.

Fair enough, he can't find the pocket is what you're sayin'.

Fingerprint File on Love You Live Wyman Question

The bass playing on Fingerprint File from Love You Live is astounding.

I just wanted my fellow IORR'ers to confirm that it is Wyman playing bass on this funky groove of a gem.

I always supposed it was but I guess as we look back over 50 years I am becoming a fan of the Stones all over again which is kind of like falling in love with your wife for a second time. It's always sweeter and more mature.

Ron Wood on bass. Wyman on synth.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember it's Ron Wood on bass.
Please, verify...

Ronnie on a long scale Travis Bean TD2000A.

Wyman played a short scale TB from '78 on.

As far as I know, Bill Wyman never played Fingerprint File on stage. I guess it's because he played synth on the recording. Maybe it was too 'fingery' for him. It's not his kind of bass line, being a solo really, and I laugh at the idea of Bill taking a bass solo.

It seems rather funny indeed. But didn't he do something resembling a solo on Rock andere a Hard place?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away
