Re: Stones Archive bootleg releases : why no advertisement?

Have you considered that places like Rolling Stone Magazine, or Mojo, have been caught flat footed by this downloading phenomena? It might be outside their comfort zone and they haven't had time to react to it yet. Although there have been some download only works already, they haven't been of the importance of the Rolling Stones releases. I have to admit I'm a little shocked that there hasn't been one review in any major music magazine about these releases. They reviewed the Sullivan and Some Girls Tour DVD, but these were released in conventional fashion on conventional formats.

Maybe the Rolling Stones themselves, in concert with Google, have been remiss in not doing a print ad or two about these releases. The Stones themselves are not exactly going out of their way to promote the downloads. They almost appear to have gone in their underground mode, becoming secretive and building up anticipation before they announce for a tour. I think they've been caught a little flat footed by the absolute deluge of product. Important works being released are being ignored. It doesn't make economic sense to let these products hang out there on their own with no promotion except the internet. We are truly in strange times for the Stones.

Perhaps the Stones are carefully choosing their time to go all out on the advertising. Considering all the stuff coming up in the future to commemorate the 50th, I'm not sure they want to flood the public mindset with product after product thereby displacing the buzz when something worthy of real buzz is finally announced (a documentary, a new album or a tour).

Does that mean you're bored with the subject? It's not like talking about music, but I think the Stones have been masters of the business of rock and roll for such a long time that I'm curious how they do things. For gods sake they placed a song on an American Soap Opera some time back. They had better contracts than the Beatles (although both eventually sucked). And unlike John Lennon's prediction that they'd lose all their money like the Beatles did with Apple, that didn't happen.

Although some could say some of their rock and roll 'firsts' were dubious, see Jovan as a sponsor, they have almost always been on the cutting edge. That's the reason I'm personally curious how they worked this out with the downloads from a financial standpoint. You know at this point that there's no way they're losing money on the deal.

No it meant... THIS, this thread and others like it, appear to be the new advertising, the sellers getting us, the buyers, to do the advertising for them.... "The ripple effect". I suppose it started with the "The Blair Witch project" and has grown across the internet ever since.

and it is working and it is trackable; 643 views / 35 posts / ?? downloads so far.

I watched an interesting movie the other night called "The Joneses", it had an interesting plot dealing with the current state of marketing. I looked but can not find an answer to see wether or not real "planted" Jones families are actually being utilized by marketers..... it would not surprise me

I know the market is bigger than the fans on iorr but this is not a record, it's something you buy on their website. (Although I wont buy it)

That's because these stonesarchive releases are advertisements themselves ... smoking smiley

They do these kind of bootleg releases all over the years to heat the fanbase. Now you can download them in a little better quality, only that's new.

cool smiley

The ED Sullivan and TAMI shows were not promoted by the Stones because they're not RS product but some one elses property.

As stated above there are not that many people that interested in these recordings beyond this site and a few others. Do you really belive that every Facebook user is going to DL a concert that's 37 years old?
