Ronnie’s lead tones in 1989-90

Check out Ronnie’s “Undercover” solo in LA:

vs

Atlantic City:

In LA, his tone is clean and dry. In AC, a pedal has been engaged.

I seem to remember, much later (2005-07, I think), Ronnie about to take a solo on Angie. He looked back as if to signal “Are you guys going to turn that thing on or not?!”

I wonder if, on songs whose arrangements are looser than others, Ronnie’s guys sometimes fall asleep at the switch, so to speak.

Sounds like he had some kind of boost pedal in AC.

Maybe the overall sound is the explanation. The video from LA seems to be a monitormix or something, and poor quality, while the Atlantic city is the main mix.

I have this Tube Screamer pedal thingy, that does just that.
