I am very sad to hear this. Very funny man down through the years from Fernwood Tonite on. Always cropped up in unexpected places. Will really miss him. Rise In Power brother Fred.

When I heard about this today, it startled me because I was just thinking about the guy last night.

Watching Fernwood 2Night EVERY night during was my ritual during the Summer of '77. When it was just bland broadcast stuff, it was really out there. Loved that show.

Prior to that, Fred Willard was in the comedy group Ace Trucking Company

They appeared on the Mike Douglas Show on one of the episodes during the week John and Yoko co-hosted

Whenever he teamed up with Martin Mull great things happened.

RIP Fred Willard

Was trying to explain "Mary Hartman" to my (much younger) wife tonight.
Couldn't really find the right words to describe it cool smiley..
Went back to watch a few clips to refresh as I was in a similar state for those two classic series..
Still couldn't explain it, but that's part of what made them so great!

His commentary in Best in Show is absolutely hilarious. So many good lines. My favorite being, "he went after her like she was made out of ham". lol

RIP Fred.

He was great in all the Christopher Guest movies like Spinal Tap, Best In Show and A Mighty Wind, where the scenes are improvised. More recently, as Phil Dunphy's dad in Modern Family. Reading all the twitter posts from tons of famous stars all saying how funny he was. So sad to see both him and Jerry Stiller pass away just days apart from each other. Heaven just got a lot funnier! RIP.

I always look at peoples last tweets if they were active on twitter, and these were Fred's last week.

"A bad time! Just getting over the loss of Little Richard, and now I learn my old friend Jerry Stiller has passed away. He was a good friend and a very funny man.

"I met him in the 60s when we played in the same clubs in The Village as he and Anne Meara. Unfortunately for us, they were much funnier! We couldn't be jealous, so we became good friends instead. #JerryStiller

He usually played pretty much the same character, but he was so good at playing that character that his act never got stale.

Fernwood tonight may have been a little before my time, but I was lucky enough to catch it on Nick at Night. He stole the show in Best in Show. He was the best. rip.
