The best racing driver who never was Formula 1 champion.
Four times he ended up 2nd, three times it was 3rd at the end of the F1 season.
Legendary his victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia.

Rest in Peace Sir Sterling

I actually met him once in what I thought, and still think, were hilarious circumstances.

Anyone who has travelled out of central London to Heathrow Airport will have gone over the Hammersmith Flyover, and then round the Cherry Blossom roundabout onto the M4 at Chiswick.

There's a petrol station at the roundabout, and in the summer of 1965 I worked there as a petrol pump attendant (when there were such things).

One day a very sheepish looking bloke turned up with a can asking for petrol for he had run out just up the road.

That was Stirling Moss. Still amuses me, sorry.

I also sold petrol to Mick & Keef in a car with two lovely ladies....

He was the first formula 1 driver I came to notice. In seeing his name, of all the things to remember about him, I came up with his comment, in a Playboy magazine interview if I remember right or some other magazine if I don't, where he mentioned that in the house he had built, he had a heated toilet seat because he hated sitting down on a cold one. RIP, Mister Moss. May your heavenly throne be heated.
