I've been introducing/educating my buddy about the stones and i really want to show him some good examples of keith and one of the other guitarists, doing some 'ancient form of weaving' what songs demonstrate this best would you say?

Start with Bright Lights, Big City from 1963 IBC Demo session.

I wish I could give you song titles but it's been a few weeks... I'd suggest listening to the new Hampton '81 live release with headphones on. I can't think of which songs but, because the guitars are panned left and right, on multiple occasions I found myself smiling/laughing as I heard the two of them (Ronnie & Keith) throwing licks back and forth to each other.

Beast of Burden has always been one of the best examples to me. Especially if you change settings and listen in different ways. I used to have a stereo that you could set for karaoke and all it really did was muffle a channel but when doing so you could hear so much that was hidden in a song and really appreciate underlying parts and weaves, for example

She's So Cold (studio version) is also rather underestimated weaving-wise. Live it's all Keith on the rythm of course but on EM it's quite a mosaice!!

What a silly throwaway this song was, but Keith and Ronnie make it something special with their guitar interaction. Ah, good old days....

Live With Me - Ya Yas version (in fact the album has many great examples of weaving, before it was called that).

Satisfaction 1969 - version in Gimme Shelter film is best

Best of Burden - studio version, or one of several fine live versions

Just My Imagination - studio version is best

However, it is live on stage the Stones really utilizes the weaving concept the most, imo, when the arrangements are a little loser.

In 69-73, the arrangements were stricter, focusing more on rhythm and lead and that made a more clearer soundscape, like for instance Satisfaction from Ya Yas and JJF from the same album. What makes this playing cool as well is that the rhythm guitar in fact plays a riff (instead of basic rhythm), while there is a great solo guitar on top.

Weaving makes the soundscape more unpredictable, imo. You never know where next lick will come from.

The intercation between Keith and Brian in the early days was at times breathtaking, even on covers such as Around and Around & Route 66. Other examples are The Last Time and It's All Over Now.

In later years, Tumbling Dice with Mick T and Hey Negrita! with Ronnie stick out.

The ending from 3:28 says it all. Beautiful!

She's So Cold is mindless fun. But a little bit of that goes a long way. I find it goes in one ear and out the other. In the studio I do not know what Woody adds. BB and LIB proved that Keith can weave with himself to great effect. On stage Woody's contributions often feel like muddled confusion. The effect can be diluting. When Keith's on he does not need to "weave" with anyone.

IMO the greatest weave ever.....The lead/rhythm starting at 3:17 is noting short of brillant!

Reminds me of an old story from the 70's:

Mick Jagger was at a party at the Playboy Mansion, and witnessed Dennis Weaver getting into a heated argument with Hugh Hefner. It escalated almost to the point of fisticuffs, with Hugh about to take a swing. Mick interceded, and in effort to calm the situation, forcefully said:
