ATLANTIC CITY -- With The Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary tour seemingly delayed until 2013, the closest thing area fans are likely to see to a live Stones show for the first time in six years was a quarter of the band in a solo show --rhythm guitarist Ron Wood and friends Saturday in the Grand ballroom at Atlantic City’s new Golden Nugget casino resort.

But Wood, playing his first-ever appearance as a front man in the United States, gave a show that was far better than just a fourth of a Stones concert.

There's something very strange about that sentence.

Not strange, just bullshit.

I saw Ronnie front his own band at Tipitina's back in the early '90s.

Ah, okay now I understand your rules. As long as it's not about a member of the Rolling Stones, I'm free to voice my opinion. But if I want to critique someone in the band, I'd better keep silent or I will get flamed.

Got it.

Thanks for clarifying, corriecas.

If you're referring to Bernard, I would have to agree.
He's best relegated to being a back-up vocalist.

I am referring to Bernard, not Ronnie. Either way, not sure why I can't voice my opinion here without getting jumped on (not referring to you, Hairball).

Drew
You can offer your opinion on what you think about Bernard Fowler's singing abilities. But to say that you can find some cook in a bar on a tuesday night in louisville who can sing better is just assinine and stupid. Bernard is a pro who deserves a lot better respect than that.Even if you don't like his singing.

I don't even like Bernard as a backup vocalist ... would much prefer more Keith or Ronnie (or both) as backup singer to Mick on Stones gigs.

Great show. Ronnie and the band sounded great, and with just two rehearsals! Got to spend some time with Ronnie and the band after the show, and I must say Ronnie couldn't be a sweeter guy. He looked fit while sipping ice water and happily signed autographs and mugged it up for some photos. Good one Ronnie!

Who cares. It's just a gig. It really ain't that important in the scheme of things. There's plenty of singers who are better. They just can't write anything. That's why they're playing in Louisville on tuesday night.

It's a wonderful change of pace to see Ronnie in charge. He's calling out the changes, he's taking initiative and directing his band effectively. The rhythm section is wonderful...that Willie Weeks/Steve Jordan combo sounds mighty nice. Nice to hear Ronnie's guitar upfront and prominent...no one else to share the sound with or take a back seat to. Just Ronnie.

Don't know why folks are dogging on Bernard, he sounded great to me from those clips, and remembering that this is from some handheld handphone with a small limited mike. Sounded pretty damn good to me! What a show that must have been.

I can't stop watching that clip of Dance Pt 1. This must have been a show where you walk away thinking, "yeah I just got my money's worth" Just a damn good time all around. Man, I wish this group would come to LA.

Man you are right Justin Dance is smoking hot! Amazing! Ronnie is really pulling out the raunch! And again, Bernard sound wonderful on this. Far better than most bar singers I have seen.

Just got back from a whirlwind trip to AC...yeah we were all quite happy with the show, including bernard's vocals. we were happily surprised to hear faces and stones music. also, i didn't realize ronnie could play harmonica - quite well! friends from argentina, japan, and london made it out. nice practice for the next tour. A few of us thought Dance was the best...and they are considering adding a few more show dates.

Definitely...there's no mistaking how good they sound..there's not one person there who's not dancing to the groove Steve and Willie are putting down. When the Stones did in '03...it was good enough but not great. Here, you give the song back to Ronnie and the song just takes off.

Ronnie is in fantastic shape! I think he should go one by himself, it would be pretty painful to see him play together with Keith, one is excelent and the other one hardly know how to play a simple Chuck Berry riff anymore. Well i guess that wont happen anyway.

thanks for posting this review.

musically, ronnie's ready to tour, obviously. but its hard to accept that
the fanbase has gotten so small that there were tickets for this small-
priced small-venue show available til the last minute.

it looks like it will be ronnie not keith that inherits the stones
musical legacy when Jagger finally goes off with his new group. but it will
take the addition of mick taylor, at the very least, to make this kind of
fractional Stones show viable at the box office.

I never would have known about the AC show if I did not read IORR. So, without the promotional push the Stones put behind their tours I doubt there is much of a die hard fan base that is interested in lube show anymore. kids, works, life, etc., take there toll on fans over time but the right promotional package would fill bigger venues for Ronnie and Friends.

I would buy a ticket for Ronnie and Friends right now if I could but without knowing tour dates a t least a month in advance it would be hard to go because of life issues.

The Stones arrive like a Roman army. You know they're coming long before the tickets go on sale. You can plan for it. If I were in my twenties I would have made it to the AC show. Here's to hoping he launches a tour.....

maybe. but the kind of promotion you're talking about takes either a good
deal of money or a lot of free media. and ronnie didn't do bad with the
media, the NYC daily news and kelly ripa and the NJ Star Ledger and
one of the big Philly papers, plus a decent sized push on IORR and a huge
push on Shidoobee...

so i don't think its a promotion problem. i think its a fanbase problem.

I doubt adding Mick Taylor would increase the box office much. He is probably less known than Ronnie Wood by casual and one hit liking fans. If Ronnie was ok with small theaters and clubs he would sell out in selected markets.
