Anyone know where the Stones best-selling UK album places on that list?

Fine for Adele, the album is good, even if it is overproduced at times.

It's not about sales it's about what the music does to or for you. Can't remember the last time i saw a Pink Floyd or Dire Straits in a 'Greatest Album Of All Time' poll. Totally irrelevant topic.

How is it irrelevant? This is about the music business, operative word 'business'. Music is made primarily to make a profit for the bands and record companies.

IIRC, Pink Floyd definitely appeared in Mojo's Top 100 Albums of All Time list, sometime back in the mid 90s. Interesting that you would dismiss them as I would say PF's music has that very resonant quality you speak about.

Good for Adele. It's quite the achievement to shift that many records in this day and age. It's a wonderful album as well.

I actually own all PF albums from Piper At The Gates Of Dawn to Wall Live but only Dark Side of the recent 2CD reissues. Also all Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour solo albums.

If PF appeared in a Mojo top 100 in the 90s I wouldn't necessarily remember that as I stated.

My point is people will now be saying that Adele is better than any one lower on the sales list and this is irrelevant. To the business it is all about profit, but to the punter it's about the music.

Not everyone illegally downloads music, it seems. Is the record industry as dead as they claim?

And Elvis fell to Glee in the US.

all I have been listening to in my car is the new comedy radio channel.

I was watching a TV programme this morning about the 60's and it said that The Sound of Music album outsold Sergent Pepper by 3 - 1, or something like that, but i don't see it in the top ten, maybe it's world sales and not British

For me personally, Dire Straits - Making Movies is one of the best albums of all times.

Because the Rolling Stones never rode the popular culture bandwagon.

I don't think they ever made an album that had "general" mass market appeal, well not enough to beat 100 other albums anyway.

That's not a criticism by the way.

The Stones do what they do (did what they did), it's brilliant, stuff the others.

Sure, but it seems to me there was a time when, for the most part, good music was popular and popular music was good. It's hard to believe that not even one of the Stones greatest hits albums would have enough mass market appeal in the UK to make it onto the list of the 100 all time top selling albums.
