Peter Frampton's Live album didn't hit the British charts? That one stil has the record for Live album sales over 11 million worldwide..

Heard something on the radio about this today and the they said that Queen's Greatest Hits is actually the all time biggest seller in England.

I' pretty sure Aap Kaa Surroor
selling much more albums in UK then Adele, but no-one counts artists from India...

With The Sound Of Music the film promoted the album, the album promoted the film. See also South Pacific.

People forget despite The Beatles, Stones et al the majority of people in this country were not of an age to listen to or buy this music.

Another reason why Engelberk Humperdoodle got the number 1 and kept Strawberry Fields off the toppermost of the poppermost. After the initial take off of 'beat music' the freakier aspects of music 166 onwards put people off and they took the comfortable option.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there some kind of military promo record at number 1 in the US despite the anti-Vietnam protests?

Back to my same argument: it's what it means to you, not the rest of the population.

#1 single on the U.S. charts March 1966. The anti-Vietnam protests hadn't really started yet. This would not have been a hit in 1969.

"Ballad Of The Green Berets" was once voted "Worst Dance Record Of All Time", but I think this one might be even worse. Peaked at #10 on December 2, 1967, the same week "Daydream Believer" was #1, "Incense and Peppermints" was #3, and "I Can See For Miles" was #9.

I guess what I want to know is, Why does Queen mean so much more to the rest of the population than the Rolling Stones?

I'm curious as to where Queen was on the list pre-Wayne's World.

I have never really liked Queen, just a few okay singles (and they played Sun City. I was once accused of racism against white people because I disagreed with them playing there). It's not so much Waynes World - their renaissance began with Live Aid in 1985, Highlander movie, Freddie dying, Waynes World and of course the musical We Will Rock You.

Oh and some one once punched me in the face when I disagreed with them that Freddie was straight and Mick Jagger is gay.

Queen had a lot of straight people following them who wouldn't like gay stuff.

Sort of ironic when you consider the name of the band eh?

Also how many children Mick had by 1985 compared to Freddie.

Conversely a lot of straight men are happy to love and worship Morrissey. Funny that.
