Misunderstood Lyrics
Posted by: Sipuncula ()
Date: March 3, 2012 08:19

"I've got one hard, and it hurts like hell." --If You Can't Rock Me (I've got one heart)
"A thousand hips I would love to taste" --(also) If You Can't Rock Me (A thousand lips)
"Let's let yourself be your slave!" --Suck on the Jugular (Let's live lasciviously(?))

And I thought sex was a universal language...

i firmly feel they should make a song about those 100 000 dead sparrows someone heard -
that's an issue that needs addressing! (like the disparus in Undercover)

burns like a bathroom carpet is another touching image someone here was haunted by -
you know, when you're passed out on the floor in the john and you realize the rug's on fire
what can you say or feel but give me give me shelter?! i mean really :E

"You're a star, proper star, proper star, proper star, proper star, yes you are".

For about 2 years until I started reading 1975 gig reviews about this song "Starf*cker" they were doing with an inflatable thing. Doh!

Absolutely true.

I was an innocent lad and the album did say "Star Star".

We've had this subject previously and it's always entertaining . For those of us older IORR members , until we either bought song books or finally got ourselves a pc , we were quite delusional in regards to some lyrics .
I got a kick out of reading lyrics once I got a pc and saying , now this song makes sense !

Here's a website that is devoted to misunderstood lyrics , some funny stuff to peruse .

For all artists .

For Rolling Stones .

LOL
as a French, when you don't know the lyrics, it's quite often impossible to understand what Mick sings.
for Star Star, I thought it was : "You're a star, packer star, packer star, packer star ..." which is ridiculous cos it means nothing.

Wow - happened to me in my mispent youth on several occasions. You seek shelter next to the big white telephone in the john but burn your chin on the carpet as you pass into unconsciousness! Man, those friction burns hurt!

"Yeah.. say the time is right for Varney's revolution".

I always wondered if it was Reg Varney from "On The Buses".

Before the 100,000 Dead Sparrows thread got deleted (does anyone know why?) I was just about to ask EddieByword about his complaint that Mick didn't sing "I've been @#$%& ing with myself" in Miss You at the White House - because I don't recall a performance where he ever did. (I'm quite willing to be corrected on this - just curious. Did he sing this live sometimes?).

He definitely has but I can't remember offhand which show or shows (out of 500 + that I've got) - I'll get back to you next time I come across a version with 'that going on'....I didn't really expect him to sing that at the Whitehouse of course but I do feel that if Mick is forced to change the lyrics because of 'company' (ie not be himself) then imo he probaly shouldn't bother with the song on that ocaission.....if that makes sense.....but it's true that he doesn't sing that all the time so not de rigueur anyway.....I guess I was just being a bit picky that night frustrated by the 'tooooooooooo gooooood boy behaviour'.....although I really did enjoy 'Commit a crime'...that at least did seem to go off unaffected

Thanks, Harlem Shuffler - I don't own LSTNT, so that Miss You is new to me (Good, isn't it.) And it's answered the other question floating around in the back of my mind: which bit of the "regular" lyrics is he replacing? The answer seems to be that he isn't - the band's in a groove that looks as if it might keep up for ever, so Mick's adding more words, like the great improviser that he is.

There's a song by Golden Smog with the line "she had her highs and she had her lows", which I always thought was " she had her eyes and she had her nose".

Apparently the first cut of the track Some Girls was 24 mins long...Mick said he was making up verses as he went - in between laughing -- eye popping smiley - God knows what got left on the 'editing floor'.........
