The Livermore Heritage Guild is having a 50th Anniversary Altamont event in Livermore (Altamont) on Sunday night, December 8th at the Bankhead. There will be a screening of Gimme Shelter, Q & A, and book signing by me.

PS: Bill Owens is supposed to be there....

Man, I'm getting old. I remember standing in a convenience store, reading about the concert being referred to in Time Magazine as The End of the Sixties. That's how long it used to take information to get through.

"Celebration" may not be the best word choice...

"Commemoration"?

Do you have any tales from the day? Would love to hear them from an actual attendee.

How was it getting there, a fair way out of SF? Getting Out after?

Any thoughts on the performances?

The Atmosphere?

The Angels?

yes...
But, you can get a more physical feel to the answers if you watch Gimme Shelter,,, it has most of the answers to your questions... my own tale would be how Gimme Shelter came about..

Me three.

Also, the font on that poster is a little too...bouncy. Sort of hippy-dippy good-timey in a 1966 Lovin' Spoonful way that's a little out of sync with the reputation of Altamont.

Aside from the actions of that idiot Rock Scully, and a deranged meth head who in his stupidity, brought a gun to the proceedings, it was a celebration.

Here's the link:

50 years ago the Rolling Stones headlined a ‘West Coast Woodstock.’

Altamont ended the ’60s with chaos and death

What I love best about the article is the 6 minute video, at the 1:49 mark, David Crosby says it was the Grateful Dead organization that hired the Hell's Angels...
