This list is subject to change at any time as there are too many songs I could float through a top 10.. Some of my fave listens that get the volume cranked:

Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel
Rolling Stones - The Last Time
The Beatles - I'll Be Back
Elvis - Suspicious Minds
Elvis - Lawdy Miss Clawdy
Elvis - Like A Baby
Dion - Ruby
Chuck Berry - Maybelline
Rick Nelson - Believe What You Say
Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman and Only The Lonely from Black and White Night

For a bonus, two songs that get me up and moving: Turn Me Loose by Loverboy and Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees. Both must be played loud.

Many love making lists. I instead like to ask: When is a rock song also a rock & roll song, and when is it not? With examples to illustrate. Besides, when does a rock & roll song remain a rock & roll song only, and when does the song (with 24FPS's words on one occasion) transcend rock & roll and enter another sphere?

Oh boy.

No order:

The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
The Cult - Lil' Devil
U2 - Until The End Of The World
Def Leppard - Foolin'
Drive-By Truckers - Lookout Mountain
Chuck Berry - No Particular Place To Go
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
AC/DC - If You Want Blood (You Got It)
The Beatles - Glass Onion
Elvis Presley - Little Sister

I know this concept is silly, because there are so many great songs by all of the artists I listed, and lots of other artists and blah blah blah. I really love Def Leppard's HIGH'N'DRY, it's easily their most underrated LP, but there's something about Foolin' that is killer.

I know The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again is probably a bit common but holy shit it's such a stellar song of power and movement.

Brown Sugar is, to me, the epitome of rock'n'roll and the Stones' greatest song ever.

The Cult have many tracks that are better (more rocking, whatever, like Sun King, which is a gargantuan song that is supreme and - dare I say it - their greatest song) but Lil' Devil stomps and boogies perfectly and a great Billy Duffy (and instantly recognizable) riff, or, I guess, a great lick, with fantastically hilarious lyrics (Lizard in a bottle!? WTF!!! Who writes something like that!? Ian Astbury!).

Until The End Of The World is fantastically melodic and heavy... without being too heavy. Great atmosphere, an excellent sonicsphere.

Lookout Mountain is a great thumping lugging song, I suppose a "modern day" great rock song that crawlingly rolls.

Glass Onion... incredible every time I hear it.

That Elvis song... I love how it's simple yet chugs and boogies.

Chuck Berry - where does one start? I love his great ones that all sound the same but No Particular Place To Go is one of those songs that is a fantastic melody in such a way that no matter how it could be covered would be instantly recognizable... and it doesn't sound like all those Johnny B/Roll Over/Little Queenie etc songs. And it boogies.

Not in any particular order:

Hush - Deep Purple
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - Stones
Crossroads- Cream, Wheels of Fire version
Jailhouse Rock - Elvis
Ain’t Superstitious- Jeff Beck Group
Born on the Bayou - Creedence Clearwater Revival
River Deep, Mountain High - Ike and Tina Turner
Gimme Shelter - Stones
Voodoo Chile - Hendrix
Gimme Some Lovin’ - Spencer Davis Group

'Satisfaction' is far and away the GOAT rock song. No contest! It packages every little thing about rock and roll in 3 minutes and 45 sceonds.'Like A Rolling Stone' is the only challenger...but Satisfaction came out first...so it is undisputedly #1...IMHO
