O/T New Van Morrison album
Posted by: IrelandCalling4 ()

Van Morrison, "Three Chords and the Truth", new album of all originals - his 6th album in the last 4 or so years I think (most of the others including a mix of covers snd originals).

Any fans of Van here? New album is pretty good, only one listen in so far but shall be revisiting.

Decent album but I don't think he's made anything exceptional since Poetic Champions Compose from way back in about 1990. For me he relies too much on r'n'b formulas these days.

It`s far better than the last ones. 4-5 really strong songs, some fillers as well. Not too bad for his age.

Any day with new Van music is special - is vocals and vocal delivery is still awesome.

Indeed! I completely agree. He makes it all look easy - which it is not of course. Unfortunately his very skill in this regard means the quality of his work is sometimes taken for granted, and he is accused of coasting or not moving forward.

I've been a fan all my life and he still moves my soul as few others can.

Van could sing any words of the dictionary and just pure packed soul.

This new Van is great! Already a modern classic for him, imho.

I've never seen him live, and would love to see him do this stuff.

Also still dreaming of a Them reunion....though I don't know how many of those guys (if any of them...ha) are still around, or even if Van would even consider it. I'm guessing he wouldn't....but I'd pay A LOT to see it!

Here is a nice interview about the new abum. The interviewer Leo Green was in VM’s band playing saxophone (The Healing Game) and is also a BBC Radio 2 broadcaster and runs the festival BluesFest.

There are 3 songs in a playlist on Spotify: "If We Wait for Mountains," "Days Gone By," and "Dark Night of the Soul."

I am NOT usually a fan of new releases from boomer bands/artists but I gotta say these are very tasty tunes! Crisp lovely playing and Van sounds in fine fettle, indeed.

It's a strong new album from Van The Man.

Just think...... Van has managed to release the same number of studio albums in the last 4 years as The Stones have in 33. A sobering thought that.
