Does Don Was attending D.C. concert suggest recording?
Posted by: Send It To me ()

The fact that Don Was was there with Mick could be evidence that a record is being made.

Or it could easily be said to be nothing.

Thoughts?

I think he was just there to make sure Mick was routine and living up to the new characterless standard he's invented for the Stones

Its all business

Just a stab in the dark, but maybe he thought "cool, a gig at the white house, I should go to that".... and he has the inside track/connections to get it done... so why not go?

Don Was is now an executive with Blue Note Records so he is definitely a busy man. Yet, when Mick wants to talk, he is there. The topic surely must be a new recording. New album hopefuls like me rejoice at the mere thought of it.

Means Nothing. Don Was is a yeah yeah sayer,to jagger. So, a friend who does not critizes jagger and therefor invited by Mick. There wont be a new record.

I think Keith has also felt Don Was to be a good enough producer for the Stones, too. He wasn't scathing about him in Life.

I think Don Was gets a bad press, but I happen to like Was (Not Was) and Orquestra Was too.

I also appreciate Don Was producing Bonnie Raitt's Nick of Time, which was a fine come-back album after years in the doldrums.

I didn't like Under The Red Sky, apart from 3 tracks on it, but, at the time, I felt the production to be a thin gruel after the excellent Oh Mercy. 22 years later, I think it is a good Dylan album, not a great one though.

I happened to like, however, Voodoo Lounge, and still do. I know it gets pilloried, but, to me, it's a good album.

I think it has very limited probative evidentiary value supporting the notion that a record is being made.

Don Was at the White House? It depends what the meaning of "Was" is.

Wrong, they famously clashed at the VL sessions, with Was *not* taking it in the direction Jagger wanted.

Well then, what happens to all those songs Mick has written over the last five years? Solo albums?

Don Was can't polish the turd that was Streets of Love...or the crappy lyrics like
Everybody's talking
Showing up their wits
The moon is yellow but I'm like jello
Staring down your tits

Don produced the Stones....okay
Don produced Iggy....okay

BUT Don produced Under The Red Sky by Dylan, for me the worst Dylan album EVER.

No: GR, the worst Dylan album ever was Knocked Out Loaded.

The second worst was Empire Burlesque.

Knocked Out Loaded has Brownsville Girl.
Empire Burlesque has When The Night Comes Tumbling From The Sky and Tight Connection To My Heart.
Red Sky has ......????

Shot of Love has its merits:

1. Lenny Bruce
2. Heart Of Mine
3. Property of Jesus
4. Every Grain of Sand
5. Grooms Still Waiting At the Altar

These are all on Shot of Love
