Stones Acoustic guitars-live set up

just a random observation...

I noticed that Mick, Keith & Ron's acoustic guitars all had acoustic pickups in the soundhole. I didn't see any w/ a tailpiece input jack. I guess it makes sense for the older acoustics but I would have thought one of them would have used a plug in version.

This is surprising to me as well, it doesn't require much surgery to add a nice LR Baggs or similar system with a strap button jack. Historically Keith has modded his electrics more for working usability rather than historical accuracy (sperzels, straplocks, routing for a humbucker, etc.).

Their acoustics don't sound bad live, but definitely don't sound great either. But I think it works and adds to the rustic sound and performance on those b-stage acoustic tracks. The focus is on the songs and how they sound collectively, not like Tommy Emmanuel or acts where the focus is on the acoustic sound.

I just saw Eric Church at the new Chase Center in San Francisco, I was blown away by how good his assortment of acoustics sounded in that room, mainly Gibson Hummingbirds.

They use Sunrise, and the jack connection is through the end jack.

I always thought Neil Young gets a pristine acoustic sound.

He does. I was never a big fan of his, but his acoustic guitar sounds pristine.
