Means a big work for them. First they have to find some empty cardboard boxes. Then they have to grease them up ever so slightly. Then walk all the way to a bookstore, buy a black market pen, decorate them boxes, while making sure they get the dates right this time. Exhausting.....lunchbreak for the rest of the day at their office

Next working day...make photographs of the new boxes, and throw away the "Rolling Stones 2-8-73" box, while hoping not too many of us noticed that hoax

While browsing through the new website I found this :

Quote

The Logo

The handwriting of the Rolling Stones Archive logo belongs to founder member of the band, Ian “Stu” Stewart. He became their tour manager in 1963, and played piano on every studio album between 1964 and 1983, with the exception of Beggars Banquet. Stu was adored and respected by the Rolling Stones right until his sudden and young death, at the age of 47, in 1985. When the Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame four years later, they requested Stu’s name be included in their citation.

Stu’s handwriting is found throughout the archive because he meticulously detailed every track on every recording while he was alive.

face palm 1: Stu was not founder member. eye rolling smiley

face palm 2: Stu didn't play on Their Satanic Majesties Request either. smoking smiley

face palm 3: Yes, they showed great adorement and respect when they opened up their asses to ALO's request that Stu remove himself cos he looked wrong. Then there's that quite revealing Keith interview Honestman posted awhile back in which he essentially said that he didn;t give a shit about the ALO/Stu thing, from before Stu died of course and before his revisionist babble started creeping in. drinking smiley

@His Majesty
I thought it was nice to use Ian Stewart's handwriting as he's the one who took care of Stones recordings. Archiving this kind of stuff is quite a job.
No need for the negative remarks IMO. smiling smiley

Of course, it's damn cool he did all that and acceptd his un-intended role etc.

Those responsible for the site ought to take the same amount of care with facts etc as Stu did with archiving the tapes. smiling smiley

Stu was the first person recruited by Brian Jones. He was the second Stone. Of course he's a founding member

Actually, Stu might not have even been "the second stone"... Brian had found some other musicians(Geoff Bradford, the pianist who played like Count Basie etc) circa same time, maybe before Stu came on the scene and replied to Brian's advert.

Actually, Brian had already found some musicians(Geoff Bradford, the pianist who played like Count Basie etc) before Stu came on the scene and replied to Brian's advert.

Regardless, it says he is founder member(like Keith does in Life), not a founding member. There is a difference.

I think you'll find that Geoff Bradford is a guitarist!

I think you'll find you've misread what I posted.

Stu on his first rehearsals with Brian's evolving band:

"The rehearsal consisted of another piano player, A singer, Andy Wren, and Brian on regular and slide guitar. Brian was very functional. We rehearsed a couple of times. Sometimes guitarist Jeff(sic) Bradford joined us - very good, but a great purist. He wouldn't bend at all!"

This being before Mick and then Keith joined the rehearsals.

Keith Richard on Brian:

"He wanted to form his own group. The Rolling Stones was Brian's baby!"

Nah, that's Nicky.

Nico's Complete Works site listed Stu as organ player and Nicky as harpsichord player on that track but ofcourse that could be wrong information.

Bill credits Nicky with keyboards on the track and the organ part follows Nicky's haprsichord lines near note for note on same parts.

It's very un Stu like style wise, but melodic and Hopkins-esque.

Mathijs's right : it all looks so amateurish. The dust-nests vintage cardboard boxes, plus the clumsy handwritten notes (complete with typos) and have you noticed the Dec. 19 date on the 3rd pic!?

Maybe you have to be a geeked-out multimedia archivist like me, or someone like kowalski, to get really jazzed to see the photos of Stu'actual s original archiving. Boy oh boyski...do I wish I could work on creating a web/mobile experience worthy of the Rolling Stones archives. Maybe someday. smiling smiley But photos like the ones kowalski posted make me very happy. To see the actual objects!
