if they never do a fresh cut again, and never do a show again, and never
appear in a photograph together again, but never formally call it quits,
can we still celebrate their 60th?

can we still add to the list of presidents?

well ... the ones with new vocals or vocal "touch-ups" are Do You Think I Really Care, No Spare Parts, Don't Be a Stranger,
I Love You Too Much, Keep Up Blues and You Win Again, right?
someone smarter than me will have to say which of the others was significantly retouched in 2011

"Yeah, alright, come on, we can do this!"

oh and revvy, you seem to be forgetting their appearances related to the Exile re-release,
the Stones in Exile premiere and the Jimmy Fallon "Stones week";
and half the current line-up appearing with the extant ex-Stones at the Boogie for Stu

y'know i've gotten this silly criticism before, more than once.

i am not quoting myself (not that there's anything wrong with that)

i am gathering in one place a continuous series of thoughts, for ease of
reading, for people who don't have the time to go back through the thread.

They've also toured the U.S. under every President since they started touring America:

JOHNSON
June 1964 (England's Newest)
Oct-Nov 1964 (12 X 5)
Apr-May 1965
Oct-Dec 1965 (December's Children)
June-July 1966 (Aftermath)

NIXON
Nov-Dec 1969 (Let It Bleed)
June-July 1972 (Exile)

FORD
June-Aug 1975 (IORR-Made in the Shade)

CARTER
June-July 1978 (Some Girls)

REAGAN
Sep-Dec 1981 (Tattoo You)
(*no tour in the second term, only time so far they've skipped one - of course if it wasn't for WWIII there would have been Dirty Work 1986)

BUSH
Aug-Dec 1989 (Steel Wheels)

CLINTON
Aug-Dec 1994 (Voodoo Lounge)
Sep 1997-Apr 1998 (Babylon)
Jan-Apr 1999 (No Security)

W. BUSH
Sep 2002-Feb 2003 (Licks)
Aug 2005-March 2006 (Bang)
Sep-Nov 2006 (Bang)

So one must conclude: they're either gonna tour before January 2013 or Obama is assured re-election... winking smiley

The Rolling Stones, along with The Animals, Yardbirds were incredibly instrumental in bringing Blues to the white American teenager. Just ask Muddy Waters & Howling Wolf & BB King how their audiences changed after 1964. They all give The Stones credit.BB King commented that his last pure black aaaudience was around 1964 when he recorded LIVE AT THE REGAL..Muddy said that everything seemed to change after THe Stones played Little Red Rooster on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Remember, the sound of young black america was SOUL & Motown by that point...James Brown, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Marvin Gaye..Etc....
