It's a White House function. There won't be a "more the merrier" attitude. Security will be far tighter than at the Apollo. A lot more headaches involved. I wouldn't expect any surprise guests for something that much of a hassle to organize whereas a guest shot at the Apollo for Hubert is certainly a possibility for any number of artists. Clapton is another likely candidate if scheduling allows.

I guess the obvious thought would be that while Mick would be welcome at the Hubert Sumlin memorial show, Keith might not be welcome at the White House.
Why not, they've had gangata rappers their before haven't they? Keith is amodel citizen compared to some of the people that have been through there.

Yes,White House security is top notch. That's why the Salahi's were able to just walk into a State Dinner.eye rolling smiley

Wish Mick would have suggested bringing along his old "Blues" Guitarist:

Mick Taylor to play Robert Johnson's - LOVE IN VAIN

Now that would have impressed the Obama's!!!

mmmm, don't know. Lovely as Mick Taylors solo is, I think it is a rather typical "white man's
interpretation of the blues". How about doing Prodigal Son?

(with Keith?)

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Okay, you're right. There's a really good chance Keith will just swing by and pop up on stage. I'll look forward to it.

You're making it sound like he's some kind of outlaw, Rocky. The only people who still believe that are the man himself and a few Stones fans who still think its 1967 or 1977. cool smiley

Typical White Man's interpretation??? anything but!!

just ask the Top Notch Black Session players who were in Stevie Wonder's backup
band when he toured with the Stones in 1972. They were saying to themselves:

Who are these English punks thinking they can come over here playing our Blues
music, then they heard that blonde lead guitarist and said: Who in the HELL is
that? - he's the real deal!!! - as quoted in Rolling Stone mag. back in the 70's..

I didn't mean because of past indiscretions. The guy hangs out with Presidents these days. I meant if he's not on the list before show day, I wouldn't expect him to just show up the way Mick could at the Apollo.

I know..I was winding you up. You're right about him not just simply being able to turn up and perform. Especially if, when going through security, it transpires that he has brought along 'the blade'....

He doesn't have any place to hang them any more unless he digs them into his scalp. He'll show up at the Apollo in his Sinatra/"Harlem Shuffle" video outfit.

I can't in good conscience start a thread on this, so since i got to put
it somewhere, i'll put it here:

The official word from the rihanna camp is that she will unexpectedly drop
a new single this week with a featured artist "that will shock the world".

besides the obvious possibility of chris brown, i am amazed to see that
speculation on the rihanna message board has turned to mick jagger!

sadly, or happily, or both, although there is still no official word about
who rih's "shocking" collaborator might be, informed speculation is running
towards it being chris and not mick. fyi, the track has some of her coolest/
filthiest lyrics and is called "birthday cake".

but the mick/rih speculation must have gotten to l'wren because she just did two
very rihanna-like too-much-information tweets.

the first tells us of her dilemma, no panties! "Gstring help! NYC fashion week
is not the time to find one..eeks all sold out"

but l'wren's followup tweet provides us with the happy ending:

again, this was a close call, as to whether l'wren's panties deserved a thread
of their own. but as usual i've taken the more conservative approach and made
them a mere addendum to this "easiest lay on the white house lawn" thread.

on the other hand, rihanna, who usually tweets stuff like "Stay
scheming....Niggaz tryna get @ me!!!!" has now taken on a very sensible
l'wren-like tone: "Successful relationships take hard work and two people
who really want to be together."

and that's our valentine's day wrapup. love to all, revvy

p.s. rihanna sends stones fans all her love as well...

Clapton is definitely scheduled for the Apollo, last I saw, Rocky D...unless you meant he could guest at the White House...

I would like to watch it .
Do you know on which channel it will show ?

Jagger seemed to really enjoy his time with Buddy Guy in Shine a Light movie ,I mean he was really into it with his harp,so I am sure he can do this as well on Feb.the 21th.
Thanks for the news,JeanPasc

At both the Apollo and the White House, the question of who will be the backing
bands/house bands is a very important one.

Because of the huge cast of characters at the Apollo, I think its virtually
guaranteed that the backing band will carry most of the load, with the
featured players simply fronting.

At the White House, it could get more interesting. It could be that Mick turns
out to be the harp player in the band on quite a few numbers, in addition
to fronting on a song or two. At least that's what I'm wishing for.

The way I see it, this goes beyond the 'party politics'. There is a certain blood line from the blues - originally the 'blackest' of any form of American music - the civil rights movement, the British Invasion in terms of introducing American white folks the 'race music', and the fact that there is now a black man in the White House now. I think Jagger - rightly - should be proud of making some kind of a contribution in such a progression. This is at least the way I see it from a distance, and not being bothered by the democratic/republican-confrontation or some current political issue in America.
