He ripped off Hendrix musically and financially.

Yeah but Cry of Love and War Heroes were my first two Jimi records, I didn't know that Alan Douglas had anything to do with them and I still loved them to death. I've heard all the stories about his timing with Hendrix involvement leading to a highly resented role as curator of his recorded works. I'm sure there are two sides to that story.

Alan Douglas had nothing to do with any of the Hendrix posthumus albums until the mid 1970's frankenstein creations Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning.

You sure about that? That doesn't sound correct to me. Sorry to doubt you. peace

Under the managment of Michael Jeffrey these are the folks responsible for putting together the posthumous mainly studio recorded Hendrix albums before Crash Landing in 1975.

Cry of Love - Mitch Mitchell, Eddie Kramer

Rainbow Bridge - Mitch Mitchell, Eddie Kramer, John Jansen

War Heroes - Eddie Kramer, John Jansen

Loose Ends - John Jansen - John didn't want his name on it so used a pseudonym "Alex Trevor"

Michael Jeffrey died in 1973, Loose Ends was the last under his 'management'.

Alan Douglas was brought in, I assume by the record company in USA, which is when these appeared...

Crash Landing - Alan Douglas

Midnight Lightning - Alan Douglas

Thanks for that His Majesty, appreciated. That Michael Jeffery was a mysterious character wasn't he? What do you know about him? Was Hendrix management his only business? How did he die? Thanks. peace

His Majesty is perfectly right !

Before "my" post critically moves towards Alan Douglas controversial work or worth, Mike Jeffery, I'd really like to show you this :

You may already know the very unique photo of Paul & Jimi together but in case some of you never saw it, here it is.

It's from the Post Office Tower Restaurant in London taken on February 13th, 1969 at the Mary Hopkin party for the release of her album "Poscard", the first one signed on Apple Records.

Yep. Sorry the picture is not so great here but in a better definition you can more easily recognise Paul.

While doing some research, I found the following in [forgottenhits.com] :

"back in 1967, Paul McCartney (in an effort to help launch and promote JIMI's career) was working on writing The Jimi Hendrix Experience into a scene for their upcoming television special Magical Mystery Tour. Scheduling conflicts prevented this from ever happening ... "

In case someone already heard about this before ??!

A french friend found this :

"Paul had wanted future guitar legend Jimi Hendrix to appear in the
film, but unfortunately the great Jimi was slated to appear at the
upcoming Monterey Pop Festival, which would prove to be his big
breakthrough performance. (Ironically, Paul was the one who suggested
Jimi be invited to perform at the festival.)

Few years ago we had a great debate on some french forums about this following very weird shot from a UK newspaper. No one really could decide if it was a fake or not.

I remember that Brian introduced Jimi at Monterey, but I'm not sure ...
or was he only in the audience ?

so I did remembered well, thanks for the confirmation

from Paul to Brian via Jimi ! we came back to the subject : "la boucle est bouclée" we could say

and what about Betty Davis ?
I think she suggested to Miles to listen to Jimi during their short marriage.
perhaps she has something to do with the Paul's suggestion too ??

Hendrix did a cover of the song Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at that show, just 3 days after the release of the album (June 1). Amazing. Apparently McCartney and Harrison were in the audience. You don't really see that happening these days anymore. An established artist covering a song so soon after it's release.

I think there's no link from her to Paul's suggestion.

There is some decent footage on youtube of Sir Paul performing a couple of Hendrix tunes live and giving a nod to him. Obviously Jimi made quite an impression on Paul. Laughing at the wording above since it was hardly unfortunate in any way that Hendrix went to Monterey , and thankfully that was filmed too.

Didn't mean to send the thread any unwanted direction YM , just have to pop the Jimi questions whever it seems like someone might know an answer. A lot of experts around you know. peace

for the last three tours he ends Let Me Rolling it with Foxy Lady. It is pretty cool, and he plays some tasty lead on it as well, and then the funny story about Jimi asking Clapton to tune his guitar.

Paul and John were very good friends to Jimi He looked up to both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He said to me: "I always get flustered when they praise my music...I don't know what to say."

After all, these musicians were as successful as one could be. And Jimi "was one step away from the gutter" before he went to London.

Not so sure about that stonesrule, have you heard the story Les Paul told about Jimi? He was going to be successful regardless of Chas Chandlers project and the British support. I mean, how could he not be? peace

IF you don't have money and a roof over your head, enough food and a change of clothes, according to Jimi speaking to me, you have "a hell of a time keeping sane!"

I knew Les Paul. He was someone Jimi would have liked to spend more time with...their words were brief. JH liked to pick his brain about tones and studio equipment And they did not discuss Chas or British support.

Let's say "Le Monde was a very very prestigious newspaper". Nowadays it's a glorified and snobbish version of the free rag "Metro".

I recall reading in one of my Hendrix bios that before Monterey Pop, Hendrix `was playing regular gigs at a club in London called the Bag' O Nails and the Beatles and Brian Jones used to go there to watch him. I remember reading that Brian was so knocked out by Hendrix' performance of Howlin' Wolfs' " Killin Floor" that it brought tears to his eyes! He was so different and so natural, and so friggin modest and sweet that he was admired by all. of the rock royalty at that time ( 1966-67). I cried for weeks after he died.....such an incredible lose.

Thanks, YM. Hendrix was always magical to me. The way the whole management mess went down disturbed me because Jimi was a gentle soul who wanted to play HIS music and he was fighting with his managers at the time of his death. He disagreed strongly with their views on which direction to go, musically. He was not interested in being a pop star, he was getting into jazz and fusion and they wanted to rake in the big bucks and for them, jazz was a death knell. It all still bothers me because in my opinion, he took an excess amount of drugs and booze to numb the pain. If they had supported him perhaps he'd still be alive....and just imagine the music he could have created! That's what hurts! Of course, the fact that he left the planet at 27 years young is an absolute crime! OK, I'll stop now.
