"The pool's in, but the patio ain't dry" question...
Date: February 12, 2012 16:04

I was thinking last night how can a pool be in & ready if the patio is still wet?

They'd be foot marks everywhere.

I think first you put the patio in, THEN the pool Keith! lol.

... Keith doesn't sing "the pool's ready". simply that it's in.
the line is a twist on a quote from a Lenny Bruce routine - if memory serves
the original line was "the pool's not in yet, but the patio's dry"
and Keith's version is a puzzling-on-purpose play on that and on his lady's name (and i know why! tongue sticking out smiley)

It's about the construction of a new backyard. The pool has been installed and the concrete of the patio has just been set.

Didn't know it was a line from Lenny.

But calling my local Rasmussen Pool 'n Patio yesterday, they said pool goes in last.

This is how much I love the Stones, by calling businesses and seeing if Stones lyrics make sense.

All with a smile.

I'm not sure if there is a successor-predecessor relationship with those construction tasks. However, maybe when Keith was writing lyrics, he thought of a funny incident concerning ... But then again, musical lyrics need not have a purpose or agenda. Maybe they are just words that match the feel and swagger of the music itself. I'm only speculating. Also, it's one of my all time favorite lines. Thanks for the post!

Correct, I'd never call an ice cream shop questioning the She's So Cold lyrics...

Some though, make me wonder.

She (the pool) is 'ready', but he (the patio) is not. He 'ain't dry', firm, 'hard'.

Ok ok ok withsssoul, let's take it this way: She (the pool) is ready, but he can't reach her yet, because of some reason (he knows why). The patio just ain't dry yet to walk on and reach the pool.

Little T&A has numerous sexual connotations. Perhaps you're right? Sounds plausible.

I think we are all above such activities in an indoor pool.

They are many interpretations about this.

Mine is their is always something wrong with the world except for his wife.

The snitcher dropping names and telephone numbers and all, and the pool's in but the patio ain't dry but Keiths baby has tits and soul.

Well yes, that's a good one considering the overall lyrics and Keith's phase of life back then.

I have read that it means something like 'the foundations are there, but there is still lots of improvement to be made', and that it is a reference to the general press Bruce received at the time -a good comedian, but there is still a lot to be improved concerning foul language and obscenity. Richards’ line in T&A then means as much as ‘I have all the wealth and riches, but the foundation is wrong’, revering to his drug use. Don’t know if it is correct, but it sounds plausible.
