Oh, I think I had enough of your religion, it's tough
It's a state of mind, I don't need it

Sending a letter to my mother, I need some loving, send it to me
I lost my lover, unfaithful lover, I need some money, send it to me
I need consoling, your boy's feeling lonely, describe her for me, send it to me
Send it to me, send it to me, send it to me, send it to me

If she can't travel, I can take the mule train, I can take the aeroplane, send it to me
Yeah, and I'm begging you, begging you, begging you, down on my knees
Baby, please, please, please, you, you, you got to send it, send it, send it, send it to me
Send her, oh, send her to me, send her to me, send her to me, send her to me

Yeah, I'm sending in a letter to my sister in Australia, sister Marie
Ain't got no doctor, no second cousin, that needs my loving, send it to me

Send it to me, send it to me, send it to me, send it to me

She won't have to watch her step, she won't have to relocate
I guarantee her personal security
She don't have to be five foot ten, or blond or brunette
She don't have to be no social hostess, send her
She may work in a factory, right next door to me, in my fantasy, send her to me
Send her to me, send her to me, send her to me, send her to me
She could be Rumanian, she could be Bubarian, she could be Albanian
She could be Hungarian, she might be Ukrainian, she could be Australian
She could be the Alien, send her to me
Send her to me, send her to me, send her to me, send her to me

Produced by The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Emotional Rescue” LP
(Rolling Stones Records CUN 39111) UK, June 23, 1980

I love the guitars on this one. A nice, funky little reggae, with a hilariously simple (but effective) bass. Nice touch with the slide solo.

The Stones at their best.

SUPERB intro by Ronnie (Ronnie, isn't it?)

Just like most of ER, Send it To Me is not a classic, and it will never be, it is not "deep", "essential" or "dangerous", it's not "chic" or "cool", but I just love it.

I wonder if it inspired Ayo's Down on my Knees.

Both Keith and Ronnie plays the intro, liddas. Keith (the one who fvcks up smiling smiley ) is in your right ear.

A sparkling track off one of their most under-rated albums. It’s got that wonderful, loping, terrifically funky disco/reggae beat, a great melody, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, marvelous rhythmic interplay between Charlie and Bill, and superb Caribbean-flavored guitar-work from Ronnie and Keith. On top of it all, you gotta love Mick’s sly performance, especially those little squeals of pain as he begs for relief. This one swings, baby.

"Fun" Stones at their best, you can understand why the fans who'd experienced the 68/72 years first hand were (and still are) completely appalled though ;-)

The Reggae-version of Neighbours, I think. Neighbours is great, but I' don't like any Reggae by the Stones.

Love Mick's voice. I do think is risky...Just this phrase in the wrong band could have created a big debate.

"Oh, I think I had enough of your religion, it's tough
It's a state of mind, I don't need it"

It got a nice groove, the whole ER album has a great vibe.

Who is hearing rumours Sent It To Me is being played at Pinkpop?

A jaunty little number that fits in nicely with the album but generally a filler.

This track screams 'co-written by Ronnie Wood'. Everything from the choppy guitars and reggae vibe suggest Ronnie had more than just a passing hand in this. Kind of reminds me of the sound he was cxreating on Now Look.

I always assumed Mick was saying 'Bulgarian', in his own inimitable style.

In some ways like they're two different bands. But the Stones were great sponges, absorbing the sounds, grooves, influences around at the time and making it their own. ER might be slight, plastic and eclectic for the sake of being eclectic but such was the music influencing the band, particularly Mick at the time. Love the intro to Send It To Me, lyrics are humorous, but it's a slight reggae tune IMHO although it does have a good beat and you can dance to it. A guilty pleasure.

It's pure pleasure, not a guilty pleasure, imo.
