Your Daddy drank himself half to death when he was 39 years old
But I hope you don’t think I feel like a father to you
But I want to tell you I miss you so much, you’re a thousand miles away
I’m at the wheel of my car and I’m coming on home to you
Yeah, lonely hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts, I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
I take 210 to Phoenix, I’ll be in Tucson by the afternoon
Get some shut eye in Vista and a bite at the greasy spoon
Took the turn off 90, I should have stayed on the interstate
I was lost in Amarillo, my map was kind of out of date
I saw the lights of Marfa, I guess it was a scenic route
When I had to change a tire, I’m glad I wore my western boots
Lonely hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts, I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through, yeah
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through, yes
When I got to Sonora, the sun was shining in my eyes
With the air-con busted, the windshield full of flies
In just a few hours, you’re gonna fall in my loving arms
I been so hot to see you, I set off the fire alarms
Yeah, lonely hearts, they’re not made to break
I got no spare parts, I got no oil to change
Honey, I ain’t accustomed to lose
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get it, baby
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
If I want something bad enough, I always find a way to get through
Yeah, lonely hearts, they’re not made to break, I got no oil to change
Yeah, lonely hearts, they’re not made to break, I got no spare parts…

Ah, yes, the new single .... IMO it is a little bit boring, no hook, no bridge ... "Do you think I really care" is, IMO, the much better song. Wonder why they choose this one as a single ?!?!?

the Rolling Stones are so educational! the lights of Marfa: [en.wikipedia.org]
but what town was he lost in? it's not "I was lost in the real"

That's the fun of having young children and hanging around on IORR. I've never known about those
lights of Marfa until now. And now I see a new perspective to this Disney Movie:

BTW, the lyrics of this song aren't half bad...

I'm pretty sure it's Del Rio, which according to Google maps, is east of Marfa on Route 90.

I don't think Vista is right either, it sounds to me like Vinson, which is further east again in Oklahoma, but doesn't really fit into a logical journey? I suppose it doesn't have to be logical, unless they were trying to re-write Route 66 !

Love the new-and-improved lyrics on this one, so evocative of the American west and the joy of hitting the road. And as with so many of the SG Deluxe tracks, it's got that lovely country twang. I'll take it.

I believe there are several fine bootleg versions floating around; here's one.

I always thought it was Martha (said in a Cockney slang as Marfa) - Some ole broad that he was meeting for a midnight tryst off the old highway.

When we first had the chance to hear the new No Spare Parts ( [www.iorr.org] ) we reckoned it was Amarillo he got lost in... There's a proper journey in that part of the song that you should be able to follow on a map.

Like the vocals better on the old version.

I don't think they put as much thought and effort in to the 2011 Some Girls project as they did Exile. There are stronger bonus cuts, like So Young.

Prefer the bootleg versions of both No Spare Parts & You Win Again.

the film world has road movies but this is a road-song
.........or maybe it's just Route 66 rewritten as a novel

Yeah, I prefer the bootleg lyrics myself with all the references to Ft Worth and Dallas....

The song was stronger when it was a weak, semi-impromptu/written-on-the-fly studio outtake. The song's shortcomings are amplified after Mick filled in the holes, recut the vocals and "finished" the song.

Never was too impressed with the outtake, and not too impressed with the finished version, either. A weak song is a weak song.
