[chicagoplaysthestones.com]

One highlight is a rendition of "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" sung by Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger

12 all-new recordings of iconic Rolling Stones songs, re-imagined in the Chicago blues style and played by today’s greatest Chicago blues artists

"The Stones came back from England after they started selling such tremendous amounts of records and told the Americans who we were [...]. Without those guys we’d still be, I guess, less unknown then what we are today..."

Mick Jagger backs Buddy Guy on new Chicago blues museum record

One highlight is a rendition of "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" sung by Buddy Guy and Mick Jagger. The two have performed live together; this is thought to be their first recording together. Jagger hangs back on the track: "He didn't want to override Buddy's presence," says Sona Wang, Chicago Blues Experience CEO. "He complemented (Guy) in a respectful way." The Stones, Wang adds, "have so much love and respect for these Chicago musicians." Four of the Rolling Stones are on Chicago Blues Experience's artists board.

Nice - that short snippet is great.

I didn't listen to all the clips, but that Billy Boy Arnold version of Play With Fire also sounds good.
And that gospel/blues version of Gimme Shelter by Leanne Faine - oh yeah it's smokin!

This could actually be much better than B&L!!! thumbs up

When I pressed play on the sample for John Primer doing "Let It Bleed" my first thought was "Is that the backing track from 'Just Your Fool'"??? Obviously it's not but the similarities were confusing my brain for sure!

After clicking the "Buy now: option I find:

$19.99 for CD+Download
$11.99 for Download only

A full 50% of all profits from sales go to Generation Next, a music education and youth mentoring program under the aegis of the Chicago Blues Experience Foundation and supporting the next generation of Chicago blues artists.

The Chicago Plays the Stones CD comes in a deluxe digipack including a frameable 21 x 33 inch poster with producer notes, liner notes and biographies of the musicians.

Although I haven't submitted my credit card information yet, I'm thinking that there will be a purchase made in my near future. Based on the samples I've heard, I like it so far!

Peace,
Mr DJA

sounds great, but the shipping costs to Europe are absurd (downloading is not real option – I don't want no mp3s)

Based on the snippets I've heard, I'd say that some numbers are strong ("Sympathy", "Angie", "Doo Doo Doo Doo"), others sounds less interesting to me ("Play With Fire" sounds like it lacks the menace of the original). provided that I rate the original versions way higher that these covers, I think I'll buy it anyway due to the ridiculously good hamonica playing I've heard in it.

Ah, this took me by suprise! Sounds great thumbs up Angie and Miss You stands out, and of course DDDDD (Heartbreaker) is great. The guitar on Play With Fire is very nice. I have to get this album! Not often I hear other artists playing stones as interesting as it sounds like hear. But then again, I am a big fan of the Chicago blues...... cool smiley

There was a House of Blues-sponsored album like this in the 90's (Paint It Blue?) that I played a lot.

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Larry McCray played Ventilator Blues on Paint it Blues. It was really great as far I as remember.

The new CD seems to sound good.

Great versions and song selections on this.
Literally had me dancing in the kitchen as I made spaghetti dinner spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Heartbreaker, Beast of Burden and I go Wild are initial standouts for me..

Very few lyric changes, liked the updated Satisfaction "Can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same kind of Reefer as me.." Sympathy has the "Who Killed the Kennedy's" lyric included and "The Police in Chicago chased a boy".. has been subbed for NY. cool smiley

Listen to the clips it sounds cool, though I have the impression that of some songs little remains behind the tipical blues chords which could be pretty much anything
nice listen though
looking forward to hear the whole thing
covers, faithful to or different from the original, are great if they're done with heart and art

yes

they're blues interpretations..

excellent sounding imo..

i love how some songs have very little in common with the Stones original.. Gimme Shelter for example

but it has got stark blues feeling like Gimme Shelter needs to have.
