I hope some of the musicians like, Bob Margolin, that have done shows with Hubert thru the years will attend and play. It would have been nice to have had some of the old school players that are still around, play as the backing band. Folks that genuinely had a tie to Hubert. Definately nice that the stars (Keith, Clapton and so forth) are turning out for him though.

On the one hand, I find it very coincidental that Mick will be in DC on the 21st of February and not sing along with Keith's playing. And on the other hand - I seem to have this gut feeling that Mick will not join Keith.

Time will tell....time is on my side....time waits for no one....smoking smiley

At both the Apollo and the White House, the question of who will be the backing
bands/house bands is a very important one.

Because of the huge cast of characters at the Apollo, I think its virtually
guaranteed that the backing band will carry most of the load, with the
featured players simply fronting.

At the White House, it could get more interesting. It could be that Mick turns
out to be the harp player in the band on quite a few numbers, in addition
to fronting on a song or two. At least that's what I'm wishing for.

Pretty sure Willie Weeks, Steve Jordan, and Ivan Neville are the core back-up band for the Hubert Sumlin tribute.

The idea of Mick playing harp behind other artists at the White House is a nice one, but there is no precedence of it happening in the past (like the Hammersmith Odeon Jazz & Blues Music Day Festival in 1992 or the Mustique Blues Fest in 2005) so it seems unlikely. It would be amazing, though.

Also would be amazing, really really wonderful, with Weeks Jordan and Neville
forming the core band, if Keith was sorta part of the core band too.

Is that out of the question?

Because, man would that make a lot of people happy! Including me.

In the days before Keith was with William Morris and Mick under Irving Azoff, such dreams might have had a chance of becoming reality. These days, I suspect not. These are the guys who do a week of promotion for an album on a late night talk show and never once perform. I'll be happy if Mick and Keith do two songs each at their respective gigs.

which brings up a further question. according to gazza's sources, there was
an agreement (at least in principle) Sept 2011 for the Stones to tour. well
then, who pray tell was that agreement with? or did they just agree with each
other that they'd kinda like to do it at some point?

This thread reads like a bunch of "twitchers" getting excited about a potential sighting of the Lesser Spotted Weeble Warbler ;^)

Can't wait to see Keith in Apollo... I managed to get a great $250 ticket 4th row of Lower Mez center...

as far as Mick goes.. as half of the Sumlin line up is also performing in the White House I wouldn't be surprized if Buddy Guy or someone tried to convince Mick to join for the Apollo as well.. 'special guests' are expected.. so there's no real barrier if Mick decided the last minute to do it..

I have my fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed for you. And for all of us. I don't think we've had a photo with
Mick and Keith in the same frame since Exile deluxe.

Tickets are still available on ticketmaster right now. 14th row center for $1000. per. You need American Express.

As I understand it, these are the leftovers. Some early ones went for 250.00, or 500.00.
Then there were and still are a bunch on Stubhub, now going for 400.00 or higher.

Where have you been? I'm going up. A friend is having a trunk sale at Niagara on 7th and A, so I'll be there until 6ish. Are you going to the pre show party at the Apollo?

It's a Pre-show reception at the Apollo. I think my ticket includes it, but I'm not 100% positive yet.
