I beg to differ about Steve Vai here:

He has the balls just like Richards, the feeling just like Jeff Beck, he plays the guitar with the sensitivity and intonation of an India Vina-player, played a lot with Frank Zappa - which is quite significant music, and technically rather good.
He influenced lots of young guitarists. In other words: he explores the guitar in his own way. Besides he is a broad-minded personality and rather modest.

That's the reason why some people don't like him. Please get the wax out of your fossilized ears, at least just for one song.

Of course Vai is a good player, even better than his teacher Satriani. However, people's aquired taste is different - and when you have problems with the guitarist's style and taste - there's bound to arise a problem, no matter how technically good he is or how inventive he was. Well, he invented the seventh string, right? winking smiley

Right of course, and from a musical point of view it's better to add one than to remove one.. cool smiley

Yep, if you fancy fax machines winking smiley

Ok, if you put Hendrix in your Top 10 list, you should know the correct spelling of his first name. >grinning smiley<

Add Paul Westerberg. What he has done in open tunings for great rock & roll songs even surpasses Mr. Richards.

And The Edge too. He plays beautifully, I don't care about "technical shortcomings" or trolls under the stage. He's OK in my book, except for that mountain-razing scheme he's trying to pull in Malibu, but I digress.

Also John Williams, the classical guitarist from Oz.

Steve Vai sucks. Anyone who plays guitar can rip a version of Little Wing. It's where most people start. He has good skills where writing out guitar parts comes in but after having been forced to sit through a couple of his shows, I'm convinced he's the reason guitarists are not respected for their music and contributions to a band. He wants all the attention, all the cool notes all the cool set ups, etc. Everything I don't like about rock guitar is immortalized in Mr. Steve Vai.

Watching him play make me want to pick up an acoustic and never plug in again. Just too much flash and nothing from the heart. Of course it's just my opinion.

Hey tomcasagrande , of course Bela Fleck is welcome on this list. I did a show with him once in Colorado and he was diddling on a guitar beforehand. That guy is not limited to the banjo, he can play just about anything with strings. I appreciate your tastes.

Come On , love your mention of Son House. He deserves a place in my book too! peace
