Keith painted on a rock
Posted by: josepi ()

I found a small stone 1.25 inches long that looked a lot like Keith, so I bought an acrylic paint set and painted his face on it. I'm not much of an artist, granted, but it's a fun little stone. I started looking around for more rocks and found one that looked like Charlie, so I tried to paint him on it but it looks more like Einstein so I kept it that way. (Keith's nose and Einstein's hair are unpainted since they were the defining characteristics that made the stones look like them. That was a few weeks ago, since then I've painted dozens more rocks of other things. Out here in the Arizona desert it's rocks galore.

Here's my question... does anybody know of a way I can make these into pendants that could be worn like necklaces? (for my own use, not for sale)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looks just like Keith - a true stone!
Charlie does look like Einstein, but there's also a bit of Ringo...must be the giant nose.

My wife makes jewelry, and there's a technique she sometimes uses called wire wrapping - very simple!

I didn't watch the video, but the title says it all and you might be able to get some tips.

You have true talent Josepi, because you've made it look like Keith. Honestly, I don't think most people could have seen Keith in that stone before your crafting.

Thanks Hairball for the link. That's exactly what it needs. Perfect.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the rock. It was the first thing I've painted since high school back in 1972. The ear was right there in the shape of the rock just for the taking. Just like the nose. The painted rock probably actually looks less like Keith than the naked rock did.

I'll be on the lookout for the rest of the band. The trick is to look at rocks just like you would look for shapes in a cloud. It's great fun.

New album cover! thumbs up
now they just need a new album
put the rocks on a black background posed like the cover of the first UK lp, no words on the cover, just the rocks. call the album The Rolling Stones just like the first one.
the cover is the easy part. they need the music to put inside.

New Mick (didn't like the old one) and Billy W. (in case they want to do a compilation or something). Also working on an outrageous new Keith.

Ok, finally done. Now includes Brian, Mick T., and three versions of KR.

Off to do other subjects next. Maybe some Beatles.

and assorted muffins and the like and doing the 'roll' thing with a can of spray paint and all that, since this thread has been up.
yes. keith painted on a rock..

why can't i just let that go?

others can, why can't I?
why?
because it needs a flipping ROLL,
that's why.
that's the whole problem with the world.

This one you just have to watch on video...

The subject doesn't become apparent until i turn it awhile.
(not a Stone, but a very famous musician)

Definitely Ringo, but also resembles Frank Zappa...or the guy from Spinal Tap....

Agree... very cool folk art.
I'm going with George Harrison as the mystery rock.

Two out of three ain't bad! It was Ringo doing Zappa in 200 Motels.

This is actually Ringo's band (still a work in progress)...
