Some news about the new album (2005 thread about A Bigger Bang)
Posted by: Potted Shrimp ()
Date: March 14, 2005 20:05

Got this from a small interview with Don Was.

Besides the well known things about recording in Paris ect, he reports:

- Some numbers from the 'Don't Stop' sessions will show up on the new album.
- Don Was thinks 'Losing my Touch' is beautiful, and we can expect more of these kind of songs...........
- Jagger / Richards are writting about 4 songs a day.
- The real fans will be very pleased with the new album.
- No release date known.

I think LMT is beautiful, too...what I wonder was the source of those earlier "out of Our Heads" comparisons???

>>>>>"The real fans will should be very pleased with the new album"

WTF does this mean?. As far as they release anything, most of us would be (somewhat) pleased...

>>>>>"Don Was thinks 'Losing my Touch' is a beautiful, and we can expect more of these kind of songs"

I have no words...

OK, OK, I'm being a bit cynical, but I really don't know if these are good news or not. The comment about Mick and Keith writing four songs per day, is it good or not?? (And I'm not being cynical now)

It's impossible to even speculate much, as I recall w/ VL Was came aboard for what was intended to be a somewhat more organic sounding album than SW, and it sure sounds better (minus the SW/Flashpoint digital ambience), & on B2B Mick & Charlie wanted a more experimental album, rhythmically, production-wise, and that turned out to be the case...but these scattered reports are too opaque, even Was' initial comments to Billboard in December - except for their apparent enthusiasm.

I'm with Bruno on this one:"real fans"? Don Was is a boob. My other fear is that a songlike Don't Stop was going to be the foundation for the new disc and it appears he confirms that. Don't Stop is ok but in reality it's mediocre ompared to what they could use as a starting point.

Thanks for the posting Potted shrimp. It's good to have concrete postings about the Stones new material. Gives us all hope that spring is around the corner and we'll soon all be complaining that the new disc is no Let It Blled.

But Potted Shrimp, it doesn't make sense : why do they write 4 songs a day AND use the Don't Stop Sessions ?? WTF ?

Come on, Potted Shrimp, you're pulling our legs...

Where did you read this interview ?

I dont get it. Why's Was a boob? What do people expect him to be disclosing at this point? Recalling interviews w/him or Jagger's comments about him going back a decade since he came aboard, he seems to have a good perspective. Remember it was Jagger who brought Matt Clifford back in for 3 out of 4 (not LMT) of the 40L songs as some sort of pre production consultant. Don W's late 90s album is pretty good, and Was Not Was have cut some adventurous music, with a superb singer in Sweet Pea Atkinson.

Maybe they write 4 very bad songs a day.............. The 'statements' came from Aloha.

I said Was is a boob because of the "real fan" remark. What is that suposed to mean?

That only "real fans" will like or listen to this disc?

The guy is simply selling and promoting it. Trying to suck us in. To say something like that, to me, is nuts. I don;t think he should be disclosing anything until the final cuts are ready to be edited. I do agree that he has produced some good music bit I never really cared for his production work with the Stones.

That makes sense - without radio the RS have come to increasingly depend on pre-tour/pre-release hype, or publicity.

Don Was is throwing us all a curve re speculation on how the new album will sound.
Now that the guy's are all back in France plus Darryl & Bernard Fowler for one weeks work that suggests that the album is not yet ready for mixing .
Until Mick,Keith,Charlie & Ronnie finish compiling and fine tuning the new album only at that stage will Don Was have a clue as to the exact content and sound.
He is just teasing Stones fans as leaking news of any nature re the new album would put him in Mick/Keith's bad books.

point 2 and point 4 would appear to contradict each other

This sounds promising, but I remember Don Was said ABB was something like EOMS. Anyway I think it would be a great record.

I was thinking the same thing.. eye rolling smiley

"Mick and Keith are writing songs together in a collaborative fashion that probably hasn't been seen since the late '60s. I would say that longtime fans of the Rolling Stones will be thrilled with these results, and new fans will understand why they're the greatest rock and roll band in the world"

"This all seems to be of a piece so far, and is substantially different than anything I've worked on with them. It's really collaborative. It's not done. We can still @#$%& it up a thousand ways, you know? But what I'm hearing now is very much in the great Stones tradition"

jagger and richards write 4 songs a day.

they must be doing over 1400 a year. that equates to nearly 20000 since 2005.

sorry this is just bullshit, please dont insult my intelligence with this new album crap.

do what other bands do, if they gonna release a new album they make one announce a release date and release album. then theres what the stones do, i dont want to know anymore. if your not going to do an album then better to keep mouth shut.

4 songs a day and we are stuck with don't stop sessions does not make any sense
