I liked Prince during the Purple Rain era, and have no problem enjoying music other than Stones music but after I actually SAW Prince, I had a different opinion on him----based on his performance, certainly not anything to do with his sexuality. So 24, why are you slamming Mick for his fooling around w/ Preston? It's all show biz!

In a 1983 interview, MUSICIAN MAGAZINE played Keith some current hits and asked him to comment. The last song the interviewer played Keith was Prince's Little Red Corvette.

Ah, but if the "pretentious" part of your comment is quoting my post you're wrong. I'm not missing out - I actually have three Prince albums, Purple Rain, Lovesexy and Sign Of The Times. I also downloaded a few separate songs I really like such as Little Red Corvette. At the same time as a person I can't stand him and I find vast amounts of his admittedly huge musical output very pretentious.

My comment wasn't directed at you, specifically. It was just a general comment towards the general public. And I happen to agree with you, his discography is quite vast with lots of great stuff and lots of not so great stuff.

He's a much better dancer than Jagger, in my opinion.

1. I'm not a Prince fan
2. I do think he's very talented, it's just not my favorite music.
3. When Prince played all these shows in L.A. last year with ticket prices as low as $25 (no service fee), I saw him twice.
4. It was well worth the time and money spent.

I wouldn't dismiss Princes musical talent as from what I've seen he has plenty of it (although his guitar solos are often so overdriven my granny could make a similar sound)nut, I'm 100% with Keith in terms of preference. I don't like his sound, his songs, his image and he does look ridiculous on stage. That is purely a personal opinion andeach to his own. I would argue that Prince hasn't made a significant impact on musical history. Keith has!

I am pretty sure there was actually another interview with Keith where he kept insisting Prince was ripping off Jimi Hendrix.. "Purple Rain" / "Purple Haze" and called him the "Purple Pipsqueek" or something...

Elton John said that Keith looked like a monkey and was holding back Jagger and the Stones... Keef decided to end the war of words after that and wouldn't take the bait anymore from the media. Sadly, this is the pattern of a bully... (as Keith had started it all with a bunch of unflattering remarks about Elton John).

I certainly think Prince, Elton John, and Keith all have lots of musical talent.

Whichever you prefer is cool with me.

I prefer Keith.

If I had all that crap thrown at me, I'd leave the stage too.
I once played a biker convention and bottles of beer were being thrown on stage as a fight broke out in front of us. I immediately stopped the show.

I once saw John Mellencamp get hit in the head with a bottle. He stopped playing for about 20 minutes then came back on stage and wore a football helmet for the rest of his set.

Saw him live for the third time a couple of weeks ago and it was outstanding (not cheap, though). We were in the second row and it was a non-stop dance party. To suggest Prince is "talentless" is ludicrous, whether you like his music or not. Keith being Keith, it's definitely my least favourite thing about him-when he disses other musicians.

It's more a slam at certain small minded rock fans, the DISCO SUCKS crowd. I think Mick was being inclusive, and also seeking controversy by being so camp. Notice he dropped the persona when it no longer had any mileage in it.

damn shame what happened to keef after he got clean. he lost his glare and started grinning and posing all the time... and also became extremely jealous of anyone else with talent. have no use for bitter keef, liked him better when he was still cool.

Who wouldn't? Play Chuck Berry or get off the stage.
