Crazy Mama production question (for you)
Posted by: peoplewitheyes ()

How did they make those sweet little guitar frills in Crazy Mama? (they really come into effect in the outro, from 3.58)

Several guitars, sure, a part of me always hears a sax in there, but I'm sure there isn't.

What's your take on this evocative melodic flourish?

Just watched it ...great to see again thanks for reminding me. Definitely no sax that's in your head. Is it Harvey Mandel On the outro?

Sounds double-tracked or delayed or something similar.

I know what you mean about the sax. I know that it isn't there, but for years I thought that it sounded like one

Glad I'm not the only one, MEG!

How many guitars?
Slide?
Mandolin?

Delay.

The sleeve doesn't list Ronnie but he's listed everywhere else!

I used to pour over that inner sleeve for hours as a teenager in the 90s.

Thanks GLS

Cray Mama...one of the greatest most underrated riffs...happy ong!!!...needs to be played more live...bring it back boys!!..is it because Mick can no longer growl like that?

They played it in 2015 at the request of Ronnie's father-in-law. They played it on BRIDGES TO BABYLON. It's not without precedent.

It's one of those songs they just can't play live very good, like Rocks Off and She's So Cold and She Was Hot and for quite some time Jumpin' Jack Flash, SFTD and Start Me Up.

This tune, along with Hand of Fate and Hot Stuff are what make Black and Blue a great album.

They lyrics are quite violent in nature haha, but musically it has that classic Stonesy raunchy vibe and has always been a favorite.

Classic Ronnie in the outro.

My theory on the Ron's melodic lines played at the end is that Ronnie played in Japan in 1974 and that he got influenced by the music he must have heard while in asia. What he plays reminds of melodies or scales that I associate with traditional Asian music. Just a guess since many years ago I also noticed and enjoyed those beautiful and unusual melodic lines played by Woody.
Rockandroll,
Mops
live version 1997; Keith congratulates Ronnie at the end; nice ending woody.

Private gig, Solana Beach. This is probably the only thing you can hear and see. Nothing of CM.
