Neil was great as usual, he's a treasure. Looking forward for Willie's set. Hope keefriff99 is having a great time there.

Neil was SO awesome! What a rocking old bastard...he was alternately warm and appreciative and hilariously curmudgeonly, repeatedly imploring us to visit farmer markets.

There are few things better than watching him rock out on an electric guitar, all angular, spastic motions.

Willie up next...

I was really impressed by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds...Im not a big DMB fan but their set really brought me back to my college days. Just two acoustic guitars and they sounded like a full band...really great.

Decided to watch delayed telecast on AXS TV...big screen, better sound, etc.
Caught the tail end of John Mellencamp and currently watching Neil finish Powderfinger...now Neil ranting about dollar stores lol...

And yes, I went to a Farmers Market today just as I do every Saturday! smiling smiley

Looks like a great time keefriff99...wish I was there! thumbs up

Oh shit, Heart of Gold...over and out!

Mellencamp was awesome...I really only know his 80s hits (Jack and Diane, Pink Houses) but his band is fantastic and he played some rocking, bluesy numbers.

Never was a big fan of Mellencamp myself, but on occasions like this can't really knock him and he sounded good.

As for Neil, short but sweet set, although that new tune Children of Destiny is just as bad live as it is on the studio version haha.
Was hoping for Like a Hurricane, but Love and Only Love is a proper long jam tune to finish off the set. Overall Neil and the band seemed tight, especially considering they haven't played together since June.

If you get AXS TV keefriff99, looks like they're going to repeat it all right when this is over, and youtube might have it up there also.
Watching good old Willie and his boys now....thumbs up

I didn't realize that Willie's son was a member of Promise of the Real!

He took lead vocals and guitar on Texas Flood during Willie's set, and it was amazing.

He's quite good..

I did't know Willie's other son (Micah) wasn't in POTR.
Was used to seeing them play together with Willie on tour.. thought for sure they were both in POTR.cool smiley

Micah (until now anyway) plays with POTR backing Neil but has his own band, Particle Kid. Psychedelic for sure. They were on the bill further down.

Yes, he's always played with POTR when backing Neil, and generally speaking he might be the most talented of the two.
He plays multiple instruments when on stage with Neil, and his band Particle Kid is way more experimental than the standard bluesey/country/rock that POTR plays when not with Neil.
Not necessarily saying Particle Kid is better music, but he's treading new territory and pushing the boundaries.

misunderstood previous post sounded like he wasn't playing with POTR at all. micah had another band, think it was insects & aliens or something like that. they were interesting, too. sounds like lukas has a good sized supporting role as bradley cooper's band leader in the new star is born. looking like that is going to be a big film. great reviews so far.

I also really enjoyed Kacey Musgraves and Chris Stapleton (I was waiting for beer for most of Sturgill Simpson's set).

Kacey is a bit lightweight and pop, but she has a good voice and is very easy on the eyes. Stapleton has a great voice and is more of a blues/southern rock guy than country.

I think you read it correctly the first time crholmstrom, at least that's the way I read it - that he wasn't in POTR at all.
So to clarify, Micah Nelson isn't officially in POTR as a recording touring band on their own, but he is a member when they play with Neil Young on recordings and live.
