Was this censored in the original video release in 1978?

Obscured line begins around 0:27.

My guess is no but I'd be curious about the answer as well. Just seems like something they would cover up nowadays but I could be totally wrong and it was always censored.

Watch Mick's lips. He certainly doesn't sing "we're talking heroin." Mick's backing vocal overdub was completed before they taped the clip (likely the day before). Since Keith's Toronto case was still a few months off, it made sense to avoid an issue while thinking nothing of saying the song's subject was "the queen of porn' and the "easiest lay on the White House lawn" on television in 1978 without a thought of self-censorship.

Good point about Keith's Toronto situation. Hadn't though of that. Funny how they would be brave enough to sing such lines until things hit close to home.

Still wish I could confirm if the edit dates back to 1978.

Whatever line is substituted for "talkin' heroin" in the pre-recorded backing vocal is what Mick sings live in the promo clip.

Aren't the lyrics about talking heroin prevention with the president? I always pictured Elvis and the Memphis Mafia going to the Nixon White House and getting badges from him.

I thought it was interesting that Mick said "alright Keith" when Keith plays the first fill !

He does, but his voice was so shot, NBC didn't have to worry.

Especially since he says "Alright, Woody" on the studio recording when Ronnie plays it.

I would have to listen to be sure as well, but I'm almost certain Mick says "alright, Woody" on the album track vs. "alright, Keith" in the promo clip.

Sounds to me that the backing track says just the two words “heroin” and “president.” His live vocal is just some mumbled gibberish to avoid/obscure the lyric, and the backup, while appearing to say something. His lips look to match the mumbling.

What’s strange to me is that there is a live vocal take on this video, but it seems to then NOT follow what what he is actually singing once he leaves the room/mic from he first part of the video. The “go take my wife” parts at the end don’t match his lip movements. So does the audio switch to the recorded lead vocal? Or did he record an entire live vocal for The whole thing and then re-shoot the second part in the bedroom?

It's the LP version with a live vocal.
