despite it being the "twenty redlights" song, "far away eyes" are
still a mystery to me.

And now i've met a woman with far away eyes, and i'm a bit mesmerized
by her, and so natually enough i'm thinking about those kind of eyes

one thing i've always known is that jagger did NOT mean a girl with
an absent look in her eyes, like she's thinking about something else

this woman i've met, believe me, she's thinking about nothing but
me when she's with me, and yet her eyes are, uh, dreamy?

i went on the songmeanings website and one person there stated, without
any explanation, "a girl with far away eyes is a girl who can see
into your soul and know how to take away your blues"

hmm. that's funny, because i said to a friend soon after i met her:
"being with her every once in a while, just coffee and talking, i feel
like its medicine, and i stay feeling pretty good after she's gone.
i mean, i want to see more of her, but its like its okay if i don't,
because it must not have been meant to be (there is most definitely
another guy in the picture)

this will sound really weird: it's like i don't feel jealous of him,
i feel sorry for her LOL

(the only other woman i've ever met with these kind of eyes was this
stripper i gave my extra ticket to at Chicago Voodoo Lounge. one of
my best times ever at a stones show. its a good story, maybe another time.)

anyway, i'm asking what you think mick meant by far away eyes?

Kind of not emotionally or mentally in the present, disengaged from the now. And, like steffiicia said, longing.

its a good song, always thought far away eyes meant she wasnt looking at whats happening now but rather looking and longing for something or someone in her future. maybe dreaming of or wondering whats around the corner in life.

It’s about a dumb girl. If you watch the video and listen to the way Mick sings it and watch his expressions, he’s being hilariously funny and sarcastic. The video makes me laugh. She has far away eyes because she’s not that intelligent.

MICK does this song so great live, better than the original version. The girl with Far Away Eyes is stoned and/or drunk by the time he shows up so she's not all there, an altered state.

Far away eyes are what Mick has at the end of the video. Yes, it IS the absent look. Sorry. lol

In Nashville Zip Code Tour as I was walking across the Bridge, we all stopped heard them rehearsing all 3, couldn't believe that night we got, Dead Flowers, Wild Horses and Far Away Eyes, but couldn't have been any other city to get those three that night!

However, you ought to listen to the choir. In my opinion, that is where the real feeling of the song lies. The funny and sarcastic elements are there as a contrast. But do take in the choir. Associate that feeling with some special woman with "Far Away Eyes". Not because she is absentminded. But because the mighty sympathy from her eyes carries through from her even when she is into the distance.

Sometimes, when you are sad, listen to the song, without focusing on the verses. Let them only anticipate the choir, that you know will follow.
