Finally a guy who gets it - one of the parts.

Kinda, but not really.

Keith fingered that low notes with high B differently. Some of the other parts might sound nice, but don't relate to what's on the record that much.

The rough fake live version in the black and white video is helpful.

Wish they'd play it live with the proper acoustic intro.

No.

It's why the opening JJF chords (before anything else joins in) have hardly any bottom end on the chords, because the bottom 4 strings are tuned up an octave.

Due to compression, sounds and mixing.

The opening chords feature usual open E tuning, or to put it another way the pitches found in open E tuning are there.

The whole thing can be played just using open E no doubt, but I'm not totally sure that that's the way Keith did it.

They did that once in 1997 (the club show), with electric guitars.

I think he did, when you play the riff on the 7th fret you get that high b note HM mentioned. If you add your pinky finger on (b-note) the third string you get a fuller sound and the pinky on the first string (b-note) gives the high Nashville sound. IF theres a Nashville in there it could be audible during the bridge?

Everybody in my family knows that if we're ever on some game show & they ask what my all-time favorite song is, it's JJF.

While I love "Mr. Soul", it is a straight copy of the "Satisfaction" lick.

he admitted as much

..the title of the song escapes me but the lyric is '..this song..
that I stole from the Rolling Stones.."

JJF is by far my favourite of all songs - ever. Excellent video too.

1968. one of their greats and the way they performed this track at the time ; " Cool with their make-ups and painted faces".

I think the song that rescued the band from the direction they had been heading in with pop and psychedelia. Rescue might be too strong a word. Bit it is almost like someone took the band, stopped them in their tracks as they were wandering, and pointed them in a better direction.

Child of the Moon was a throwaway IMHO. A leftover to fill side B.

But how could any B side compare with an A side like JJF?

Absolutely, the coolest filmed performance ever...so amazing, even almost 40 years later.

I recorded the main basic acoustic on top of a backing track by someone else with vocals. This acoustic guitar, possibly with one other played by Brian on the same cassette recording is all there was as far as acoustics on JJF.

Think the 1969/1970 live versions are the only live versions that do the original justice.
Ripping song.
Studio version brilliant. ..but there's something about the Altamont version that is scary!

Rock'n'Roll Circus is good as well, imo. The only time the riff sounded somewhat near the original.

True.
But feels a little "soft"...if that makes sense.
Do like that version though

Yes! The more recent live versions just go on waaaay too long. Why do bands do this? (Including just about every band I've been in.) They figure if a 3-minute song is good, stretching it out to 6 minutes makes it twice as good???

The best JJF hits hard and fast and doesn't hang around to see if you're okay.

I really wish I could hear or see how they did it live at the NME Pollwinner's May 12th 1968 show.
