I have no idea who this guy is, but I saw that he died today at age 28.

See here - [en.Wikipedia.org] :

"Avicii was a Swedish musician, DJ, remixer and record producer."

Saw him once on Pinkpop (think it was in 2015). I kinda liked the show, although the kid was stoned or drunk as a doornail. But he couldn't do anything wrong, as the show was pre-recorded of course. Nevertheless, I feel sorry for his family and friends. He seemed to have a real talent...

Talented guy. Hooked on opiates. Prescription death like Anita said of Brian.

Is that just something people in Sweden know? I have never heard that he was hooked. I've heard him talk about anxiety, though.

Way too early, very sad.

This guy was like Mick Jagger for the EDM genre..

The name wasn't familiar to me, but after listening to a few samples on YouTube just now, some of his music certainly was. How tragic.

Rest in peace, Avicii

Why start a tribute thread of someone you don't know? Seems ill-considered or even discourteous to me.
thumbs up

ainly not a prescription drug

Is it what Anita said about Brian?
Not according to the official verdict. I thought it was drink plus some uppers. Certainly not a a 'prescribed drug'.
Unofficially of course, it might well have been due to a man with a grudge.

Yes Anita said that in the interview included in David Daltons The first twenty years.

He was very open about his condition. Talented guy, a bit too shy, troed to keep up with the DJ lifestyle (he aas a composer not just a DJ), drank too much, had surgery, got hooked on opiates. He was very honest about this. He was perhaps too honest and a bit too young.

NBC news said he was some kind legend. Not in the stones category.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about this although he was from Sweden. I guess I'm too old. Never did rave or house. Apparently upper class kids here loved him. Prince Carl Philip sent his condolences.
It's party music, nothing else. I wonder how he composed though. He wasn't a musician. All digital and computers I guess. This kind of music caught on in the world though.
Club music of today apparently.Like disco in the 70s and early 80s. I'm sure Sir Michael knew very well who Avicii was.

Not quite my tempo either but he wrote melodies, produced etc. Ive heard his songs millions of times without having a clue. I know teenagers were crying and mourning.

Didn't knew about him either before his death, but that just tells only what an old fart I am (and proud of it!grinning smiley). But my 12 years old son knew who he was (but he doesn't know what the b-side of "It's Only Rock'n'Roll' is, so don't think even think about teaching your old man, boy...grinning smiley)...

Listened some of his things in youtube (something was familiar indeed), and checked out his WikiPedia entry, and was surprised what a profilic and succesfull guy he was within such a short time. So many projects, hits, colloborations (some I even know, such as Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Nile Rodgers, Abba guys, the Green Day guy, Coldplay, Santana...), more hits, the use of different media and the distribution of music. etc. Damn hectic.... This - is it called 'EDM' - is probably what the most musically talented and adventurous kids of their generation these days do, and I guess if I were the age of my son, I'd probably go crazy for.

But I'm not - I go to check my Son House collection now...

But RIP Avicii. Always so sad to see people to go so young.

Me? No not at all. My point is that no he was not Stones - he was an active writer, producer etc.
Not really my cup of tea but great talent. Inspiring.

Apparently he did a lot of charity. For example he gave one million dollars to "Feed America". He even did some work for them. (According to the hunger relief organization Feed America
1 out of 8 people struggle with hunger in the U.S.). He also gave one million Euros to African aid. An honorable thing to do for a young man.
