Songs the Stones Should Rehearse for the Next Tour
Date: December 4, 2011 08:48

Taking into consideration what they have already played in the past,these are the songs that I think they should at least rehearse for the new tour - if there is a new tour.

These songs could be easily used to create a new,fresh,interesting set :

--------------------------------------------------

Pre - Beggars' Banquet :

* Come On

* Can I Get a Witness

* Confessin' the Blues

* Time is on My Side (played in concert one single time since '82)

* Heart of Stone

* Play With Fire (no live performance in concert in over 21 years ; much longer for Europe)

* Satisfaction

* She Said Yeah ( Cologne Commercial )

* Out of Time

* All Sold Out

* She's A Rainbow ( rare for most of the U.S. )

* The Lantern

* Jumping Jack Flash

-------------------------------------------------

Beggars' Banquet :

* Street Fighting Man

* Salt of the Earth

* Sympathy for the Devil ( only if it will be re-arranged and used as an opener or at the beginning of the set )

-------------------------------------------------

Let it Bleed :

* Gimme Shelter

* Love in Vain

* Midnight Rambler

* Let it Bleed

-------------------------------------------------

Sticky Fingers :

* Moonlight Mile

* Can't You Hear Me Knocking (good "break" for Jagger)

* Wild Horses ( on occasion )

* I Got the Blues

* Brown Sugar (If they must play it again,use it in a new spot such as the second song in the set.)

--------------------------------------------------

Exile on Main St. :

* Rip This Joint (to be used as one of the last four songs in the set to break up any potential war-horse onslaught)

* Shine a Light

* Let it Loose

* Tumbling Dice (Again,if they must play it,put it in a new slot - the 1st song or towards the end - just not in the middle again.)

* Soul Survivor

* Plundered My Soul (from the new deluxe re-issue)

* any other song from disc 2 of the deluxe re-issue that they want to try

-------------------------------------------------

Goat's Head Soup :

* Silver Train

* Angie ( maybe )

* Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo ( Heartbreaker ) - to be played rarely > in the handful of places which have missed out on it in the past > Chicago etc.

* Coming Down Again - for the theater shows

--------------------------------------------------

It's Only Rock 'n' Roll :

* Dance Little Sister

* I.O.R.R. (only if they are going to use it as an opener or during the middle of the set - not towards the end of the show and not as the 2nd,3rd,or 4th song again - they could even just not play it this time)

* 'Til the Next Goodbye

--------------------------------------------------

Black and Blue :

* Hand of Fate

* Hot Stuff

* Fool to Cry

--------------------------------------------------

Some Girls :

* When the Whip Comes Down

* Before They Make Me Run (to be in a rotation with Can't Be Seen and You Don't Have to Mean It)

* Imagination

* Far Away Eyes

* a few songs from the new bonus disc

--------------------------------------------------

Emotional Rescue :

* Down in the Hole

* Emotional Rescue

* Summer Romance

--------------------------------------------------

Tattoo You :

* No Use in Crying

* Waiting on a Friend (rare in Europe ; never played in Boston ; Canada ; and the rest of the world besides the U.S. and a few European cities)

* Start Me Up (once again,only if they use it in a new slot - maybe the 4th song in the set)

* Worried About You

--------------------------------------------------

Undercover :

* Undercover of the Night

* Too Tough

--------------------------------------------------

Dirty Work :

* One Hit

* Harlem Shuffle (maybe)

* Sleep Tonight (maybe)

* Too Rude

* Had it With You

--------------------------------------------------

Steel Wheels :

* Hold on to Your Hat

* Almost Hear You Sigh

* Mixed Emotions

* Can't Be Seen

--------------------------------------------------

Voodoo Lounge :

* Break it Down

* Love is Strong

* Out of Tears

* I Go Wild

* Jump On Top of Me ( non-album single )

--------------------------------------------------

Bridges to Babylon :

* Too Tight

* You Don't Have to Mean It

* How Can I Stop

* Thief in the Night

* Already Over Me

--------------------------------------------------

Forty Licks :

* Keys to Your Love

--------------------------------------------------

A Bigger Bang :

* Laugh,I Nearly Died

* It Won't Take Long

* She Saw Me Coming

* Don't Want to Go Home ( from the bonus disc )

* Under the Radar ( from the bonus disc )

I know these tracks are not likely. - If they didn't play them between 2005 and 2007,they probably won't 5 + years later. They would be interesting in a club,however.

--------------------------------------------------

* Plus some new songs - at least bonus tracks from re-issues !!

There are the 75 - 80 songs which is the # they usually end up playing. They usually rehearse a little over 100 per tour. Maybe throw in some more if it ends up being a long tour.

If they focus on nailing down these songs,like I said,they could easily use them to create a fresh,new,realistic,interesting set. I know there shouldn't be too many obscure songs in any one concert although I don't consider songs such as Play With Fire,Time Is On My Side,Shine A Light and Waiting on a Friend (some examples) to be obscure.

I would like to hear mothers little helper played live but just can't picture Mick singing what a drag it is getting old.

All of those songs (Send It to Me's post) are in the original list except four of them -

Highwire,Complicated,Too Much Blood,and Send it to Me ~

We should develop some kind of a consensus opinion,sign it as a petition,and forward it to the Stones / Chuck Leavell.

Let me down slow
Too Tight
Good times, bad times
Blinded by rainbows
Lantern
Do you think i´ll ever care
Little baby
Drift away
SHORT AND CURLIES
Through the lonely nights
Watching the riwer flow
All the way down
Where the boys all go
Back in my babys arms

In what universe are they going to rehearse five songs from Dirty Work?

Re: Songs the Stones Should Rehearse for the Next Tour
Date: December 4, 2011 23:18

I'm quite sure that they HAVE rehearsed four from Dirty Work in the past. Check the Bridges to Babylon late '90's rehearsals or the Licks Tour rehearsals of 2002 - maybe both.

Anyway,two of them I listed as "maybe" ; two of them are Richards's lead vocal songs (he plays songs from albums he considers worse - E.Rescue and Undercover). Jagger and Richards both like "Harlem Shuffle".

Dirty Work or not,"One Hit" deserves to be played again and "Had It With You" deserves to be played at least a few times.

Rehearse that many??? Maybe for a 2015 tour they might be ready.

Besides, they have some tough ones to get right such as:

HTW
JJF
IORR
Miss You
Brown Sugar
Start Me Up
Beast Of Burden
Tumbling Dice

Re: Songs the Stones Should Rehearse for the Next Tour

I listed less than 80 songs. They usually rehearse well over 100 and play around 80 give or take during the course of the tour (talking large tours).

My main problem is that during the last tour,with a couple of exceptions,many of the rare songs for the tour were played few times and usually far between. In the '90's and during the first half of the Licks tour,the rare songs for the tours were played on a consistent basis.

Examples : 2000 Light Years '89/'90 ; Monkey Man '94/'95 ; 19th Nervous Breakdown '97 ; The Last Time '97/'98 ; If You Can't Rock Me '02/'03

On the A.B.B. tour,your chances of hearing Far Away Eyes,Shine A Light,Let it Bleed or Sway (until mid-January '06 through September '06) were not much better than your chances of winning the lottery.

I'll just shoot randomly, but if this IS their last one...

SHOULD
Time Waits For No One
All the Way Down
100 Years Ago
Silver Train
Winter
Let It Loose

SHOULD NOT
Any Keith on lead vocal
Anything released after 1983 in their existing catalouge
Any new songs unless they're actually awesome

I agree.

This is the closest you're gonna get these days...

Would love to see the Stones do a 5-piece version.

If Belinda Carlyle has the "stones" to sing it, surely Mick does.

Time Is On My Side - Japan 1998 @ one of the Osaka shows - It was the "web choice" if I recall correctly.

I would be happy if they played one of the two famous Emotional Rescue leftovers; Tribute to Stumpy or Stumpy's Song. Especially the 22 minute version of the latter is a killer.
