Coming Down Again

Coming Down Again is one of Keith's most moving and heartfelt tunes, IMO. I would be thrilled if he ever did it live. To my knowledge he never has, has he? It would be great if Mick stayed onstage to do the part they sing together on GHS.

They rehearsed Coming Down Again during the ABB tour; think it was for the Beacon shows. Somehow, I never wished for any live version of this. It's a thing of the moment - a live version could turn out to be silly

It could be really good. It's easy to play, and the type of song (like Silver) where Keith gets the time to focus on the singing.

Together with Angie, yes.

Three ballads
One psychedelia-tune
A slow blues
+ lots of keyboards

Not the best rock album - still, I like it to some extent.

Like You Got The Silver? IMO, they did a good job on that, both in 1999 and on the BB-tour.

Great song from a very underrated album.Aside from the big four I don;t think that The Stones have done many records better than Goats Head Soup. Why it is so underappriciated by so many fans is stil baffling to me

Might have something to do with the lack of rockers from "The Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band In The Word" + the muddy sound?

Don't get me wrong, I like it too!

But that might be the reason...

yes they sure did, and yes CDA is another beautiful number, but ... hm.
a yearning love song like YGtS might be easier than CDA to put across in concert, especially decades later.
i'm having trouble imagining the delivery of some of the lines in CDA -
which doesn't mean Keith couldn't do it beautifully - just that i'm having trouble :E

It's a favourite album of mine as well - one of the first Rolling Stones albums I ever heard - and the first I really got into. I'm still not to eager on hearing a *live version* of Coming Down Again though.

Hi With Sssoul, that's what I was thinking as well - but didn't find the proper words to explain; but now you just did.
Yes; a yearning love song like You Got The Silver seems like a much more likely task for them; or Keith Richards, to deliver a decent live version of, than a song like Coming Down Again - which is a more personal-reflection-kind-of-song. WHich is why I think it wouldn't work out well live. Of course I could be wrong.....one never knows for sure

We might overestimate what Keith is gonna put into this number almost 40 years later, but I can relate to what you're saying, with sssoul and Erik.

Then again, he did All About You brilliantly in 1997/98.

Well yes that's a nice version; allthough Coming Down Again is more of a "personal loss" song, than All About You - which is more of a put-down directed at somebody else - so it's a somewhat different thing; IMO

In a way, I read All About You as a personal loss-song, too

now that line i can imagine the current-and-near-future Keith delivering with beautiful feeling and grace
there's one a few lines earlier that might be hmm trickier :E

seriously: the chilly bitterness of the vocal on the studio track is a big part of its great beauty -
but would that work in concert? 40 years later?? even when singing about someone else's pie??? :E

ha: now i've talked myself into really really wanting to hear current-and-near-future Keith interpret this number

Don't know about Keith's voice, he could probably pull it off, but Chuck doing those heavenly Nicky parts? No.

Quite agree...but I think the rather "wishy washy" production is a factor.

I love this song, but I would hate to see it ruined by the Vegas personnel, the way Sway was. Maybe if they got Taylor on bass and Bobby doing the sax solo they could pull it off, but Chuck on piano? No thanks.

Great studio song, but it really wouldn't work live

A gem that should be played live.
