Re "Pearls Before Swine", its creator is an outrageous punster and play on words person. It took me awhile to appreciate the word play, but once I did, I could appreciate the amusement/humor being aimed at the reader even when it was/is off target and not particularly funny. That being said, I will also readily state that "Pearls Before Swine" is not everyone's cup of tay.

The running gag is when those corny and silly puns are so bad that the characters come after the cartoonist in the last panel.

Based on how many involve song titles and obscure music trivia, I'd say the guy is an old rocker.
