Love the song but it really wouldn't have fit well on Let It Bleed. For starters, there was already a comedic song in Country Honk.

I always thought of this one as a b-side, an easy to write warm-up throw away to put the band through their paces. And they could do that so easily in those days. And listening to it again just now, I can hear the seeds of If You Can't Rock Me in there.

Love it!

It's incredible how effortlessly they found that Stones groove back then on what in reality a throwaway track. They would try harder and fail to get that groove many times decades later. Then, it just seemed to be a natural thing.

Also my favourite Taylor guitar solo on a studio track. The bit at 1.26-1.27 where he finishes the little run and Charlie does that roll kills me every time.

I really like this "live" version.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Not a throwaway at all. The fact that it's a b-side, or contains some familiar chord sequences, does not take away from the fact that this is a work of genius. The interplay between Keith, Charlie, and Nicky at the start is nothing short of miraculous; what a stunning, effortless groove. And then Mick comes in, perfectly in sync, spouting gloriously nonsensical, Southern-fried lyrics that are (IMO) sheer poetry; one of his most inspired performances, really. (And note to Mick: you're mumbling the lyrics here, which gives the song a lot of its appeal and charm).

But the best of all comes next: Mick Taylor's solo ... possibly the best MT solo ever recorded. What I love about it (besides its clarity and brilliance) is how suddenly it transports the listener from the 1960's into the 1970's. There is something so unmistakably 1970's about it, yet this track was recorded in '69. That is, I feel, why this track may not have worked on Let It Bleed and was left as a b-side.

and meanwhile, to hell with making sense - i love this gloriously raunchy piece of forever,
and "got the brain of a dinosaur" is a firm fixture in my idiolect. now turn up the Stones!

This would be a great song for Mick to sing with his 'modern' voice!

As far as I know, this is the only song, in which the guitar solo starts, while Mick ist still singing. And Mick starts singing again, while the solo is still going.

I used to think it was "how to build a PA" as in setting up the sound equipment

It is a brave person who tries to decipher the lyrics to this one! I do enjoy the ABKCO lyrics videos, even though they have mistakes in them sometimes
