1978 Woodstock Rehearsals: three guitarists?
Date: December 18, 2017 10:07

I've listened to this quite a few times and i've always noticed that on quite a few songs you can hear a third guitar. You can hear it in the beginning of Tell Me when Micks starts singing, On Crackin' Up, and I think on Hip Shake as well. These are only a few examples as it's heard on quite a few songs. It's kinda low and is in the center of the mix but it's still very apparent. Could it be Jagger just throwing in some chops for fun?

They were three guitarists in 1978: Keith, Ronnie and Mick.

There three guitar-assault was all over SG, ER and the 1978 and 1981/82-tours.

Also later tours all had at least one song with Mick on guitar.

Some live albums have three guitarists, especially on songs when Mick doesn't play guitar.

And then there's the Blondie factor - whether he was on stage strumming along to Satisfaction on acoustic, or hiding under the stage covering for Keith.

Mich Jagger played guitar onstage as early as on the 1975 U.S. tour (Fingerprint file, I believe)

True, but he played on several numbers in 1978 and in 1981/82, hence he had to rehearse his guitar parts with the band as well (like on the recording).

Thanks for the info everyone. I kinda figured it was Jagger but I just wanted to be sure.
