Great songwriter. He wrote "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" which became a monster hit for Kenny Rogers and The First Edition and "Detroit City" which was a hit for Bobby Bare and Tom Jones, among others, and recorded by many including the late great Arthur Alexander, who was an influence vocal styling wise for the Beatles in their formative years. I still have fond memories of chugging a few and singing along with the bar crowd to one of Tillis' hits from the 1970s, "I Got The Horse", which I have included here.
