Maybe Taylor is warming up because Jagger wants to kick Keith out of the Stones. Yikes! (I doubt that Charlie would allow that.)

Keith obviously can't make the 50th Anniversary gid at Marquee club... so they need replacament, and I guess Taylor wouldn't be such a bad choice...

Achilles 77, nice to have you here, heard about the tour, well its still in the planning from Taylors Manager, I have been trying to drum up some interest here in Australia by contacting a few promoters and festival organizers to let them know he may be around next year and trying to get someone to book him. No one asked me but I have been doing it just so I can see him in concert, he rarely comes here, either the promoters dont beleive me or they are not interested. If I could do it myself, I would but thats way out of my comfort zone.

Lapaz62- it appears you're from Australia and maybe that explains why you're a bit "out of the loop" with regard to the current situation. Mick has been offered several Australian tours in recent years but has declined those.
Could you send a message to my e-mail address so I can liaise with you directly and clear up any miscommunication ? Thank you.

Is Ronnie's response to the "when will the Stones tour?" question - "How long is a piece of string?" a reference to...THE TODGER INCIDENT?

I think so. Ugh. Stupid Keith.

Why you shouldn't act on your anger...

I am not counting on a Stones tour with Mick Taylor, or even a Stones tour at all, but Taylor joining the Stones on tour is no longer just a pipe dream either.

Yep.

For the first time ever, it makes some sense, given how this tour is shaping up,
as an acknowledged farewell. Hopefully it means Bill Wyman too, at least for
the Euro dates so he doesnt have to fly.

You are all nuts if you think Keith would be replaced by anyone for the 50th Tour dates, IF There are any...Really?? Jeff Beck INSTEAD of Keith??? Put those mushrooms down!

The only thing that ever held back Mick Taylor was Taylor himself.

There's no real reason why he couldn't have been put across as a Jeff Beck or (insert any white blues guitar god). We're talking about image and marketing here.
He obviously has either never been interested enough to do this or just could not get a wrangle on his addictions long enough to focus. But I'm not sure even that explains it, many artists have severe addictions and are more well known to the general public. I think it's more an insecure personality and a desire to not be in the limelight.

But hanging every hope on The Rolling Stones calling is never an answer.

I said "Hi Mick Taylor, my two favourite tracks are 100 Years Ago & Winter", to which he said something like "I hope I get to play theses again sometime soon", which I took as a hint, that somehow he might play with the Stones again

Get ready for the deluxe reissue of GOAT'S HEAD SOUP with new overdubs...(or not)

What do you think "how long is a piece of string?" means? It's a strange thing to say. To me, it is clearly an oblique reference to penis size.

What if its the mushrooms that are telling us about the taylor thing?

taylor wouldnt be replacing anyone. they'd just be doing shows as a 3-guitar band,
blatantly with taylor, instead of stealthily with blondie.

and it could definitely help with the much-discussed insurance costs, if the stones
committed to doing shows ONLY IF NECESSARY with 2 of the 3. obviously ronnie
could impersonate keith if need be and taylor could do the same for ronnie...

but with all 3 functioning, even keith gets to take a break during the show.

I assume it means that it is an unanswerable question. A piece of string has no defined length. Probably a saying, as they say.

i met mick taylor in atlantic city, about 10 years ago,got backstage after the show,i thought i would be starstruck, but he's such a down to earth gentleman, and so warm, after a minute of talking to him,it was like getting caught up with an old friend.hung out with him for about an hour, what a guy.

A piece of string has a measurable length, people. Unless, of course, you're getting into physics and talking about string theory.

It appears that I WAS WRONG (ugh, I hate to say that). "How long is a piece of string" is actually an idiom, it seems, but I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT...

I think Wyman is more of a long shot than Taylor. I hope I am wrong, because I think Bill was as important as any Stone when it comes to their sound, but Taylor makes more sense. Bill doesn't have the drive to be in the Stones and does not want to travel. The Stones have a bass player they can live with.

The Stones need Taylor or some boost to their guitar section if they are to hit the road again. I think Jagger knows that (and Keith might even know it too). I don't have much interest in seeing the Stones again if its going to be like the end of the last tour, but if Taylor was joining them, I would be first in line for a ticket.

I think the biggest issue would be Taylor being able to stay healthy and keep up on the road... but he would be going first class and without back to back shows. What I could really see happening is Taylor going them for a set each night... The Stones doing their warhorses at the beginning and end of the show. In the middle, Jagger introducing Taylor to join them for a few numbers from that time period. Taylor would do the heavy lifting on the non-warhorses since Keith can't. Then Keith could coast through the rest of the warshorses with all the backing musicians. It would hide Keith's decreased skill set and make the Stones still look like stars musically overall in the show. For the show's encore, Taylor joins them for Brown Sugar. That is the kind of load that Mick Taylor could probably handle health wise and make it through the entire tour. This is how I see it playing out. Mark it down!

"You'll be studying history and you'll be down the gym. And I'll be down the pub, probably playing pool and drinking."

what a strange thing to say.. he can play them whenever he wants!

yes that was odd but we have to assume he was referring to playing with the Stones again. My money says he will do just that in 2012. I'll bet he will tour for the entire 2012 project and play on 4 or 5 songs near the end of the show. 100 years ago, Sway, Moonlight Mile, Winter and Live with Me. It's gonna happen. peace.

is English your first language?

The term 'how long is a piece of string' means 'I dont know' or 'there's no answer to the question'. Simple as that.

Neither would Keith. In case you havent noticed, its not in Mick Jagger's 'power' to kick anyone out of a band that isn't his.

The paranoia on this board gets worse by the day. eye rolling smiley

John Mayall was good, passionate,

Thanks for the report.
Was this in Poole or London?
Did Mayall or Taylor suggest he was playing other dates with Mayall?

Yeah, not bad at all. He looks a lot better than the other photos I had seen. Thanks for posting.
