Fender has come out with an american made '72 Telecaster Custom with an ash body. See link to a review in "Guitarist". It would be interesting to hear if you have any comments/thoughts on this guitar. Maybe someone has alredy tried it?

My but she's pretty.
That would be fun to sit down with for awhile

It doesn't go into much detail about the Pups. I guess they're stock?

I am a fan of this guitar. I played one at Guitar Center. I have always liked the Wide Range P/us.

Basically....it's a Tele and 97% of them US or Mexican are great playing guitars (as are many Squires for that matter), right? To me, I didn't notice a ton of difference between this and the "other" versions of the Tele Customs

I like the Wide Range because to me, they have an edge on the bass strings. They growl well and yet they are clean on the top end.

I have older versions of the p/us in a Music Man Sabre II and through the Bassman "channel" of my Fender Supersonic, they sound incredible. A little more gritty than PAFs to my ears at least.

IF you don;t own a Tele Custom yet and you are a fan of KR..............get one!!!

I have one of these; not these reissues, but my own Tel Custom. This is a guitar that grew on me. I was not very wild about it at first, but this is a great guitar.

I have a MIM version and upgraded the bridge pickup and the saddles and it is a great guitar.

I have an old black one from 1974, a lighweight one. MY PLAYER!

I sold a reissue 2004 which was sunburst and pretty heavy but the sound was great! Especially the single coil. Unfortunatly the saddle kept ating the d-string so I had to sell it. If you can't find an original, this is a great alternative!

Important question though -is the Wide Range used on this guitar a regular humbucker (standard magnet with steel poles), or is it the same as the original 70's design with magnitized CuNiFe slugs? Futher, they state that 250 kOhm pots are vintage correct, which they are not -Fender used 1 MEG pots on the original Customs.

I would love to buy a Fender Telecaster 1952. But sadly is very expensive for me.

But this is the 1972 Custom. And this is the one Id love to buy and thats why Mathijs questions are important. Is this a true remake of the original or not. It looks fantastic but does it sound fantastic or almost.

I've had one for about 15 years. Built around 1974, used to be either brown or sunburst but the finish was later stripped off, and my guitar tech says the electronics were modified at some point (including changing the Wide Range for a PAF then back to the WR). The WR is really something special. A lovely guitar! I changed the original bridge for a modern 6-saddles a few years ago.

I know is a 1972 Custom. But my dream is a Fender Telecaster 1952

But of course the Vintage '72 Telecaster Custom is amazing, too.

The difficulty with the original WR humbucker is that the CuNiFe magnetic is very expensive to use in a mass produced article. I understand this new American Vintage 72 Tele Custom uses the Mexican made WRHB, which is just a standard PAF type humbucker in a larger case.

I have the Japanese reissue from mid 1990s. It's true that tuned to Open G, with low E removed, you become Keith Richards effortlessly. Paid $499(US) back in 1997. I will never sell it.

Amen. Yes, while I prefer the 72 I cannot argue with the 52. Can I have both?

Dont sell it, from what Ive heard the Japanese is better than the Mexican, in sound at least. Keep it, it will become a rarity.

Mathjis, thanks for info!
